I hear ya on the cage. Thought this was a particularly scary looking crash. Maybe because of the step by step photo sequence.

Currently on a two year walkabout

    Corry,
real cool stuff,,,,Looks like a tight fit with the CBr and 2 seats in the cock pit. *
How much of the original Rhino is left? Did you guys tear it all the way down *to the main frame, and then build the rollcage or tube chassis,,,,,and put some of the original body back on?
    Tell us more

Ahahahaa!! That pic....yeah, that was a good crash.....4th gear pinned coming around a wide sweeper, I hit a HUGE hole, swapped out a few times and that was me just before I actulaly started flipping.....I DID manage to get back up and finish in 2nd place....but was coughing up blood all the way home and limped for about a week! LOL!!! *

Protodie.....I could have gone with narrower PRP seats, but there was enough room to put those ones in......it's actually not as tight a fit as it looks. *Snug.....and comfy...actually! *We bought a 450 rhino, brought it home, stripped it down, and started buildling the chromoly race cage from the bottom rails on up....the whole bottom frame is rhino....so are the suspension mounting points and shock mounting points....all that is stock. *We are using the stock rhino radiator and oil cooler.....becuase it's a great size for the engine we are running.....we actually used the stock rhino hanging pedals and made the clutch pedal from another rhino brake pedal - cut it in half......with my new engine, I now have a hydraulic clutch, and we used a stock rhino brake cylinder for it.....I am using the stock rhino shifter - we modified it so it shifts smoothly straight back and forward (ground out the notches) and I have this great little short throw shifter now........stock plastics of course......doesn't sound like alot of stock stuff, but we wanted to try to use everything from the original rhino that we could......just to try to keep in the spirit of the thing. *Yamaha actually really liked that we did that, and I'm glad we did, too......

Our goal when we built this was not to have this huge advantage over my competition.....keeping the suspension geometry stock made sure that we can't do things other rhinos can't do as far as jumping, etc, goes....I just wanted an engine that was better able to handle going the speeds necessary to complete checkpoints in desert races.....running the CBR at 7000 RPMs for long periods of time (it redlines at 14,000) is just so much easier on the engine than running a rhino engine completely tapped out for those periods of time..........on short course races, I'm actually at a disadvantage in that I'm shifting alot, staying in my powerband, and trying to keep wheelspin to a minimum......but I really like it. *It's a fun challenge.....!

Looks like you guys did *a nice job on it. Do you run the stock Rhino shocks, or could you fine upgraded ones to fit the stock suspension geomotry

We are actually running a So Cal Fab Longtravel kit.....with FOX longtravel shocks - single rate....with rezzies. *This same kit will bolt up to any rhino....only difference is, we only have two drive axles as opposed to four (we used stubs in the front), and since we are NOT running a stock differential (which is slightly offset on a stock rhino, so you axles are different lengths) we had our Gorilla axles made to a custom length that works with our custom rear drive shaft. *Otherwise, we can run any stock or aftermarket suspension arms we wanted to.....I wouldn't run stock length arms with the speed this can go - just for stability and safety reasons...lol!
