    Hi guys,
As the title says I cannot figure out how to take apart these front shocks on my ody 250 for repaint and love. I have looked at the owners manual and it seems as you crunch the spring down so then you unscrew the two half's So I got a ratchet strap and scrunched the spring down. I couldn't get it to screw apart so now i'm stuck... Any help or suggestions? I may try it with a ratchet strap on both sides to get even compression and that might make it so it slides out, but idk yet.
    Thanks.

    Pix please.

Did you get the springs off? That has to be done first (obviously).

looks like you have to compress the spring enough to get an open end wrench on the locknut that's under the top eye. then slip a metal rod or screwdriver through the eye and use that and the wrench to unthread the eye, then the locknut. Only puzzling thing is the "pull out" with an arrow--i think that refers to making sure the eye and locknut are clear of the hole in the top plate of the compressor.

    Agreed with Xbird.

I didn't realize that's what you were trying to take apart. Sorry about that.

If you don't have a spring compressor, you should be able to go get one at the local auto parts shop - they loan them out. It won't be like the one in the pic, it will be a pair of clamps that fit on each side of the shock and pinch the spring.

Heat would probably help too, as I'll bet they're stuck on really well. But you don't want to burn the bushing in the end of the shock. You're in for a fight, unfortunately - or should I say likely?

Hey thanks guys, I had trouble understanding the diagram about the location of the lock nut but I got it now. Good idea K-fab I am going to try the ratchet strap technique and hopefully don't break anything I will have to try the auto stores if it doesn't work. School and work is getting in the way of the project but I hope to get pictures of whatever happens tomorrow.
    Thanks.
