    Understanding Ackerman

Im trying to get as much info as possible on designing my front suspension and I think I have a grasp on most of it. One thing that still has my just a tad confused is Ackerman. Below are two pictures that I have drawn up. The first one is my understanding of true? Ackerman. The other one is for somebody to use paint or what not to show me how to figure Ackerman on a front steer design. I also found 4 nice PDF files that I will try to attach to get some opinions on. The one explains it but Im not sure it makes sense to me. If anyone can add anything to this please do.

If you read thru that it should shed some light on the different ones for you and it has a good bit devoted to ackerman and with the pics nad moving demos its a good way to grasp it.
Now that NOBAMA has PROVEN he is the absolute WORST president in the history of history Jimmy Carter can thank him for stealing the dunce crown.

Lets hope the next guy repeals NObama care along with the rest of the stupid crap this blight on our windshield has done.

Like so, I dont believe it is true, to get true you draw it on a circle and its a little bit more involved i do believe..

After I read my post what I was trying to say is Im trying to grasp how the lines draw out with a front steer car. Is it set up with all 90 degree angles and no Ackerman like teh one pdf or are the racks moved around like the other pdf. Also if moving the rack how do all the lines line up?

Thats what I was thinking Bug but if the wheel choice wont allow it do you deal with the Ackerman issue or deal with the KPI issue. I know I have read over and over that its a matter of designing it with what bothers you and the car less.

If the wheel wont allow it, then you wont have true ackerman. Most of the time, there is a wheel to allow it tho on these cars, I dont guess steering arms get much over 3" long,Ackerman should be sacrificed before proper KPI imo.

I agree with going with the KPI over Ackerman. I know this may not be the way of going about it but I would like to have front steer so the calipers could be mounted behind the spindle and not in front of it. I also read some where about putting the tie rods in tension or compression and the pros and cons of each.

Calipers are so small, they cant fit up front still... IMO the best place is on top.
