Hey, Iím planning to build a sidewinder or piranha buggy, and as my dad and I never rush straight in, I just wanted to get some feedback on problems/points/tips on a buggy project.

Personally, I'd go with the Piranha. The independent rear suspension would be much better than the swing arm on the Sidewinder. Plus there are lots of extras you can do with the Piranha.

Plan on spending between $7,000 & $10,000 AUD

Decide on an engine and consider the room you will need in the engine bay. Consider if you will need to beef up the rear transmission / suspension.
Consider lengthening the chassis in passenger compartment depending on your height.
    Have fun

i got the plans in the mail yesterday, i was also thinking of something like a 1100cc honda donor bike, dont know about transmission, saw two cheap hondas in the newspaper yesterday, also, i think the 7000 to $10,000aud was a bit off, i have looked around and most people who build it from scratch spend only 3,000 to 5,000aud so thanks for that anyway, i dont think i will use the otehr rear end, but maybe.

Check out this thread WESTERN AUSTRALIAN SUPERLITES ASSOCIATION FORUM • View topic - Bravo's Brumby Build he has built a Piranha with a Honda 1100.
Save yourself the rework and look at the rear end options.
