I still don't get why the bottom square tubes don't go all the way forward. Instead of being cut at an angle, capped and welded. Wouldn't it be easier just to go all the way forward and just connect where two tubes meet? I've also got the plans and intend to build.....sometime.....

    Hi collverj,

Nice looking buggy. Please keep the pictures coming. How did you bend the tubes for the roll cage ? What bender did you use ? Bending the tubes is where I'm stuck at. I have never bent any tubing. Is there any place that a person should look at about bending tubes ?

    Keep up the good work,
    Al

From the pictures, it looks like he used pre-bent pipe fittings or something along those lines??

yes MrBracket, those are pre bent angles I used what I had and I did not have a tube bender I did not want to buy one for four bends. I will probably get some crap for doing the cage that way but I don't plan on rolling it over.
They are for hand rail. in the top rear corners I used 2 45 deg. long on each corner and 1 45 deg short on each front down tube there is a little play in the joints to get the right angle for the pipe to line up had to modify the lengths according to the drawings but is welded strong.

collverj, I doubt anyone will give you crap for using the pre-bent angles. But they might give you crap for your reasoning... If you don't plan on rolling it, why bother putting the extra weight up there??

We all like the look of nicely bent tubing, in reality it is weaker than straight tubing... As long as you brace things up properly and put quality welds on those joints, I'm sure what you are doing will be just fine. Even if you happen to roll it over on accident

That is coming together fast. It looks so FAMILIAR. I like the pre made angles for the tube.

Yes it would, but it gave me a protected place to drill and rout wiring and hydraulic lines. No wires hanging down, but I guess that could be easily remedied.

You make a valid point Masternate.
