    Redline riot at Winchester bay
    #1
    Default
Bought a redline riot with a 150hp 2008 Yamaha apex engine put in a few months back, with a few problems. Been working on it since and last weekend she finally came alive! Me and a couple buddies took it on its first trip (for me) to Winchester bay, OR. Picked up a go pro hero3 to film the trip but unfortunately we forgot to bring a few parts including a flex arm thing for it and the charger somehow. So the only footage I managed with the gopro was a few runs with it on the front bumper. Ill be taking it out again soon for some harder driving and better video, but for a first weekend it was a blast.

    Much better stuff to come

Thanks guys it was a whole lot of fun. The conditions were some of the worst I've seen at WB in quite a while. real short steep dunes, but we pretty much had the place to ourselves with hardly any rain. So can't complain there.

Rat, I was only reaching about 11,000rpm, I thought the redline on an 08 was 11,800 so I'm going to check that out. Also could really use a good gps speedo before the next trip, only way to tell speed was when I was outrunning my quads that max out at 72mph. Never been that fast through the dunes

I wouldnt run it to 11.800 Bad for belt and clutch . the 08 Apex makes the best HP at 10.300 by over reving the chart hp goes down. Just sayin

Awesome thanks rat, made looking into that a lot easier. I was plenty happy with it at 11, so looks like engine wise she's all done finally. Feels great after about 5 months of on and off work to finally have it fixed, can't imagine the wait on some of the awesome builds on here that last a few years. Now to buy a tube bender and start making her my own with some custom doors and some body panels. Never done any tube bending or welding though so I'm goings to need some practice before it goes on the riot, so ill definitely have some questions for the forum I'm sure

Then to start a new build from scratch once I sell my other stock redline riot, I'm officially addicted to the buggies after past weekend

Are you using the stock weights in your clutch ? I ask that because if your able to pin it and get 11800 rpms your clutchin is off. If your clutchin was on target ya should be able to pin it and the rpms go up around 10300 + - 200 and stay there

I am using the stock weights. When fully pinned I can get it to reach 10,800, the tach stays below 11 always. Think 10,800 is still a bit high? Any idea what size weights would bring it down to the better powerband? Thanks for the advice, this is my first higher performance car I've owned
