Thanks guys. Yeah I should have started with the gloves - man those things burn! I've never been able to figure out how to make chips instead of stringers with my radius cutter.

Not sure how old you thought I would have been, but I'll be 31 this June.

What kind of material did you use? 1020, 8620, 1045?

Do you have a chip breaker on your insert, that will help a lot :-)

    Nice job.

You need to make yourself a spraymister,I posted a couple of links to a Fog-buster copy on here somewhere.Very handy.I'll see if I can find them.

I see you went to the bolt circle calculating method rather than the turntable.I've spent too much time in the past with the BC charts in the machinery handbook.

    That was easy...https://www.minibuggy.net/forum/shop-...machining.html

    Only one worth copying IMO.

I would have used my rotary table, but I got a little too carried away on my band saw and cut the dies in half before I drilled the holes

I used 1018 cold-rolled steel for all the parts.

No I don't have a chip breaker. I was using a cemented carbide tip cutter. I'd like to get a holder and inserts someday.

Thanks chuck! My day job is software development -machining is just my hobby. Aside from some help from my uncle who is a machinist, I'm completely self taught. I seem to have a knack for this stuff and wouldn't mind doing this as a job someday.

It you get an insert cutter, get the .5 round ones. They make them with decent chip breakers and the round insert will make sure you have good edge geometry no matter what angle your plunging at. For a regular cut it's easy to grind a chip breaker in by hand, but with the way that's being used you would run into edge geometry problems.
