Tonight I tried hooking up the gas to my welder for the first time. I am having issues with the bead of the weld staying on top of the metal instead of fusing. With the flux core, I had no problem with the metal fusing together. With the gas, the bead wants to stay on top of the metal. What should I do?
Thread: Mig weld bead.

Flux core is usually done with reverse polarity. Try swapping it and see if it gets better.

I already did that. Everything is set up the way it should be. I’m just not getting good fusion at all

Flux core penetrates pretty well, but it's usually a pretty dirty weld. With gas you need a clean surface to start with, and you might want to try turning your wire speed down. You want to hear more of a buzz and less of a crackle, and keep the nozzle pretty close to the puddle so the gas can do it's job. Wind is bad too, it can blow the gas away.
