I saw a video of one of these built as a class 3000 or Baja Lite and it looked to be a good performer, anyone have any feed back on it? I am 6'4" and want a two seat buggy for running the beach and a possible foray into some desert racing here in Texas. Hopefully someone can give some insight into this buggy or steer me in the direction of something that will work for me.

On the beach - in Texas? Are you down on South Padre?

The R82 is a great base to start a project with. Well designed and works well too.

A little north of Matagorda Island, you can have some fun there too. I am looking at this one and the R82s, I like the longer travel on the R82s but would want to lengthen the wheel base for better handling. Either one would be my "poor man's class 10/3000" if I could ever get out to the races in West Texas. For now, I just want to build something.

Those Rorty buggies are awesome! and I'm not biased either...

The R82 and R16 are pretty similar overall. The main difference is the R82 is designed for those that want to build the whole lot themselves with minimal off the self parts and more modified donor car and bike parts. In that respect the R16 is a little more 'modern' and quicker to build. The chassis on the R16 is also designed in 1.5" tube rather than 1.25". That makes it more suited to most types of serious competition.

The R16 has longer wheel travel than the R82 front and rear. Track and wheel base have been selected to give a balance of straight line stability and cornering ability - lengthening the wheelbase won't necessary 'improve the handling' it will change it though. All depends on what you intend to do with the car.

Bob is 6'7" and no bean pole. He designed these models so he could fit, you should have no issues.

I guess you've discovered the info on Rorty | The Road Not Taken and the videos of the R16. There are a couple there of buggies built to compete in the 3000 class with ecotech motors. There's a YouTube channel as well.

Almost every Rorty buggy is 'customised' by the builder for better or worse, so it's a bit tricky to generalise about handling of the chassis. Wheel and tyre selection play a big part and everyone is different.

I am going to be building an R16 (and R21) demonstrator later this year powered by a Motus MV4R (1650cc, 100ci, 200hp) which will be suitable for the super 1650 buggy class here in Aus. Just waiting (still) for the parts to arrive from the US.

    Hope that helps!

You should probably ship me one of those Motus V4s so I can properly break it in for you

What did they ding you for the engine? I don't think I've seen a price on one yet.

Lots! They are pretty expensive pieces of kit - you could buy most of a Busa for the same money.
I may have consumed too many beverages when I hit the go button on that order but should be worth it. They sound awesome and comes with lots of bits that make it easy to customise like a fully programmable ECU and dash and direct support from the designer and manufacturer - much harder to get from the big boys. They have developed a supercharged version Motus Motorcycles | MV4 Baby Block
I'll post pics once they land.

I bow to you for that engine!!! Such a beautiful little powerplant.

I also know that "buy it now" condition... "Ah hell, I want it!" 'click'
