    Matt's Cross Kart Build
    #1
    Default
Finally getting around to starting a build thread. I visited MB.net quite a bit when I built my ST2 19 yrs ago. Back when the UTV was still basically a JD Gator. Now that that buggy is done I have started a new project. I have posted a few photos already on FB but I'm trying now to get away from big tech as much a possible. Looking at my ST2 and knowing what i know now i would have done things differently (110v welder vs 220v, kneeling on concrete vs standing up, ha) This next build is an opportunity to do it the right way (at least based on what i know now) So Ill get started.

    Project Goals:
    Faster than my 600cc ST2
    Much better handling than ST2
    Lower with less suspension travel
    Light (less than 800 lbs)
    Front brakes!
Ability to align the cars suspension
Able to enter hill climb competitions
    Larger occupant area
Able to use slicks if I ever get the chance to take it to a track
    Single seat
Can be used as a base for testing suspension and drive train ideas i have had
Ability to use as an Ice race car

Buggies and karts that have inspired me:
Semog Bravo (amazingly simple and effective)
LaBase RX01 (more complicated than the Bravo, but much more stylish)
Many of the buggies on here and the FB page
    Badland buggy ST2
    Formula extreme karts
Hill climb open wheel cars at pikes peak
    DPcars.net

So this build will be based loosely off the LaBase RX01 for styling and mechanically similar to the Bravo. Of course, adding my own influence also.

That’s going to be a cool build. Take a look at cars and cameras 750cc cross kart, You may like it. I took a look at the semog bravo and it looks very cool. I am currently building a badlands st3 buggy. Is a 110v welder enough? I have a heavy duty power systems 110v mig welder and flux welder and I have used it on some thick metal and it had great penetration.

    let me know,

I have been modeling as I go, here is the current model. The physical progress lags just behind. I'll make a post for each interesting part i have made so far.
