2 Seat XTC with Yamaha RX1 Engine

I am swapping the engine in my buggy from a 2 stroke Ski Doo Rotax 670 to a 2003 Yamaha RX1 1000cc 4 stroke snowmobile engine. Going to include the chain case from the snowmobile so it will have reverse. I started the swap 2 yrs ago then other projects took over my time but am back at it and hope to have it running in the next few weeks.
Here is a picture of before, frame is a mid eighties XTC frame

Looking good, Turbo. Reverse and better gas mileage. Two great things!
    I race, therefore I am

Fatboy yes MI, I live in West Branch. I am trying to get it ready to go to the Schuss Mountain Hill Climb at the end of the month.

K-Fab going to get it running naturally aspirated but built the exhaust and am building the air box/cleaner turbo ready.

Does anyone have any idea on clutching? I am using the stock Yamaha primary and secondary as they came out of the sled, but expect I will need to make some adjustments.

You and I both are getting ready to wander down this lane. I'm running a Yamaha primary and an STM secondary.

I've been told that the weights in the primary need to be lightened a bunch. Not sure where on the weights or how much.

My buddy, who used to make the Coyote (RX1, EFI adapted RX1, Apex, turbo EFI adapted RX1 - holy shit that car rips), was the one who told me about the primary mods.
I plan on picking his brain and see what he has to say. I'll share what I find out.

Not sure what to say on the secondary. I always ran an Arctic Cat (and broke the towers off with regularity) or Team so I'm out in left field with the present clutching.

Yes I love seeing these snowmobile engine builds with the chaincase and CVT's in tact like they were used on the sled!
That exhaust looks great! similar to what I did with mine but I only got 2cylinders to deal with... and I was able to use the existing flex joint at the header attachment.
I've been sniffing around here again, been away for a bit. Back in it, love this stuff.

I found some information on the RX1 clutch https://totallyamaha.com/snowmobiles.../clutches.html. The stock weights are a 8FA-17605-00 and weigh 63.8 grams. There are a bunch of different weights available down to about 34 grams https://totallyamaha.com/snowmobiles...ch_parts1A.htm That site also has information on the secondary, lots of good information.

I got my radiator installed so was able to run the engine for a while last weekend, sound pretty good. I am finishing the chain case and drive sprocket this week and hope to take it for a ride next weekend.
