Thanks for the reminder. It's been a while since Iooked thru my Shigley machine design text book from college. I was planning on giving about .010 inch of backlash as that's what they specified for my Dana 44 gears when I set them up, but it would probably be better to run the numbers and see what is best for these straight cut gears.

I started boring a hole in my FNR case for my first bearing and .015 inch at a time is so slow and boring (no pun intended) that I had to move on to something else for a while. Used some CAD to come up with the final pattern for the dash.

Yeah, I see what you did there.
Looks good. Why swap it out if it fits.

Haven't gotten anything else done but had to pull the buggy out of the shop to make room to work on my jeep for a day and took a few full view shots and figured I'd share them.

It's a 06 or 07 GSXR 750 powerplant. I may wish for more power when I'm done but it will be more than my old VW sand rail and we had fun with it.

Got the dash panel cut out and mounted up to the framework. Installed the voltmeter and switch panel as well. Currently more switches than I think I need but that way I have spares for future additions. Doesn't look too bad, but could have spent more time trimming around the gauge cluster to make it a little tidier and not remove excess material.

I placed the BMW diff in the frame both toward the front of the buggy and backward (towards the back) to see what direction will work best for driveshaft and FNR box placement.
Placing it backwards will give me the least amount of cv plunge, but it will also be very cramped to make the driveline fit, give any driveline misalignment or slip length. Any thoughts on mounting the FNR and diff with poly bushings (motor is hard mounted) and having no slip in the driveline? Recipe for disaster?
Placing it forward will require me to put in another idler gear in the FNR to give me more separation between the input and output shafts. It will also require 1.5 inches of plunge per side and potentially clearance issues with the exhaust work I've already done.

I looked at it again and made a bunch more measurements and came to the conclusion this morning that the diff will only fit one way to give me enough room for the drive shaft and clearance for the FNR between the seat and the engine. So I started mounting the diff. This is where i ended up today. I may have to make my FNR have an extra idler gear as well to get me enough offset from the input and output to mount it up to the diff and the drive shaft.
