I'm thinking about the 10" travel Bilstein 6100 valved at 170/60 for the fronts. I've seen a lot of people make reference to the Gabriel shocks and Monroe has a light truck shock with 9" travel, Advance Auto part #
    59037
, but I can never find valving info for them.

If you weld a pipe fitting to the top of the can and put in a schrader valve you can rebuild/revalve the Bilstiens pretty easy.

Top tip, drill a 1/16" hole in the top to release the pressure before you try to take them apart or you will get a bath.

Edit: with the stock mounts I think you only need like a 6.5" shock.

We chopped the factory limiters off and measured the potential travel this weekend. It has the potential for about 9" before binding the tie rods. We got the steel torsion bars put back in and installed the new poly seals on the beam. We also got the brakes cleaned up and everything assembled. Now I'm just waiting on new link pins for final assembly, but they are back ordered. As soon as I get them we will be able to assemble everything and set up the caster angle to build the lower frame and mounts.

We are getting close to having the front end finished. we got all new bushings and pins installed and the brakes mounted up. I have to build the lower frame rail and upper shock mounts and we'll be ready to move to the back.

Life kicked me in the balls shortly after my last post in 2019. We've since moved, COVID-19 happened, I've taken a new job, and lots of other things. But we finally got back in the shop and got back to work on the buggy. It seems that none of my old photos are still in the thread. I might try to go back and edit some back in. In the meantime, here is a picture from this weekend. We've got the rear mocked up and are getting close to welding it in. I hope we'll be ready to start building an engine by Thanksgiving.

    Welcome back!

Life gets in the way of shit, doesn’t it. Projects get shelved, rehashed, shelved.

Yeah, the whole picture thing has been an issue over the years…. PITA
