Well here it goes, buggy #5
Kids change things - a lot! Most notably, they change the number of seats you need in your buggy!
Enter the 3 seat, GXSR 600 powered, RZR 800 4wd system, trail size Microburst SxS
I already have it laid out in 2D CAD... just working on the 3D now.
I picked up the entire drive train (minus the front diff) and some other stuff from a wrecked 2009 Polaris RZR 800. A 4wd system is a necessity on the trails up here in eastern Ontario. These parts will save me a lot of design and fab work down the road.
I need to keep the footprint of this ATV the same as my other buggy for two reasons: 1) Trail gates are 63" up here and 2) anything longer than 105" will not fit on my trailer.
I have some aluminum 15" x 8" rims and Fox shocks already that I purchased for the AR51 that I never built.
My plan is to make it 62" wide and 105" long.
Tires will either be 28" or 30" for extra ground clearance.
Seating will be 3 across the front. I'll have a bucket seat and the kids will get a bench seat.
The engine mounts "the other way" on the RZR drivetrain, which is the first major hurdle I need to overcome. My plan is to stick it pretty much on top of the FNR and run the chain straight down. The water pump is in the way though, so I'll need to sort that out. I'm leaning towards a remote elec water pump.
That's it for now. Stayed tuned! I'm going to do a video series much like I'm doing with my 74 Challenger build.

definitely looking forward to this build. Any plans to widen the a-arms like an 'S' version of the rzr?

Awesome! really interested in seeing what you come up with in gearing and that chain set up. I thought I heard the CVT transnission gearing would be hard to match up to a bike motor (ratio is like 10-12:1) so you might actually need to gear upward from bike to tranny?
Maybe I got it wrong. anyhow really interested as I too have thought about using rzr running gear and tranny to do much the same idea you are working on here. Would be super nice to have reverse and 4x4 all worked out for you and let you focus on the frame bits.

The trans is geared something like 10:1. I plan on running a really large sprocket on the engine and something really some into the gearbox. I'm also going to run 30" tires so that should help a bit as well. Most of the riding I do is on slow trails so the lower crawling gears will be nice anyway.
