Hello everyone. I recently accquired a baja buggy from a college baja team. I wanted to post beginning pics and have many many questions. My primary concern is the engine right now. I have a crashed polaris sportsman 500 that was originally going to be the donor motor. After I started thinking about it I started to think that it may be underpowered. Then I bought a cbr600 motor complete with everything I need to make it run. I then realized that it was too big and required me to extend the rear at least 12," I dont want to do that. So I am back on the drawing board. What is a good engine size for this buggy? A phazer motor? What other four stroke engines are good? I would like to be around 70hp.

Welcome! Can't wait to see some pictures.

Check out my Baja SAE build from one of my old college cars. https://www.minibuggy.net/forum/proje...n-vehicle.html

I'm using a Briggs V-twin. Just dyno'd in around 48hp at 7000RPM. A bit expensive to build if you were to do it from scratch. But heck of a strong motor. The car is decently fast for a light 4 stroke.

How far from Menomonee Falls (milwaukee) are you?

I am a little concerned with the width of the rear end. I am not sure what kind of axle set up to use.

Cool. I designed and made this years baja T-shirts for them.

Sled motors are good and cheap. Minibajaman runs one. Only downside is lack of torque, and the noise.

Unless you get into a higher end ATV motor, you won't be making that much power. A newer Can-am, Polaris, Arctic Cat, etc would have between 50-90 HP, but would cost a lot!

A 4 stroke phazer sled motor is the way I am leaning for next year.
