Air Replenishment Valve

What is the purpose of an Air Replenishment Valve? I bought an aftermarket exhaust without the hookup for it. What does it do and can I live without it?

Sorry for the noob question. I searched but received no results. Googled and only found valve adjustment how it's.

Got before and after pix? Where does it attach (other than the exhaust?)

I can try to take a pic later. It connects to the carb. I'm starting to think it's emission related.

Pic? Chances are it is for emissions and can be plugged off on the carb without ill effect. Make sure you have no vacuum leak though. Just a suggestion, but you could try getting it running well with the stock exhaust and the valve hooked up, then unplug the valve at both ends and cap both ends. If it runs well like that, you can probably run it capped with the new exhaust.

Yeah, I can't figure out how to post a pic. I think it's similar to an EGR valve setup. I'm just gonna run without it. Also the hammerhead intake doesn't allow me to hook up a PCV. That one is a definate gotta figure something out.
