ok, so looking for guidance, how to plumb the regulator return line?
1) back to pump inlet,
2) back to pre-filter inlet
3) or to the top of the fuel tank?
this is for FI system with Bosch 044 pump

It should be somewhere where air can escape, and were you can sink some heat. Back to the fuel pump will heat the fuel considerably, unless it is being used.
Back to the tank, whether top or bottom would be the best.
I would personally route it to the bottom of the tank, no need to drip and aerate it any more.

sounds good, I only have the option of returning to the top but I can use a bulkhead fitting and run a tube down near the bottom so it stays submerged.
