Sucks but I understand...all the pictures that will go down will be hard hits...I can't even follow the facebook group because one of the mods banned me for not agreeing with him lol. I'll miss it.

    Yep it's a tuff one.

Went from final tweaks on my buggy before a test drive and finally getting to meet Rich to nothing.

Hard pill to swallow for sure.

What are the requirements for taking over the site. I've never run a website before. I'm assuming it's a daily thing a few hours min each day, probably need a server and such. What all is involved ?

Go to the first page and click on K-Fabs name, it will give you an option to E-Mail him.

I've also watched several forums disappear over the years due to social media and changes in interests. In case the site does go away, I downloaded my build thread by printing each page in a pdf. I just read through the whole thing to remind myself what I did ten years ago. My AR51 is still in my basement. I need to get a battery for it and drive around a bit. Christmas project!

I'm glad I decided to visit the forum today and take a walk down memory lane.

Since I shut down an open registration I have nothing to do other than check the e-mails once a week or so. The place moves along just fine on its own.

When registration was open I would sit down every morning with my cup of coffee and go thru the 20-30 new membership requests and check each IP address against known blacklisted IP. If they came up clean, welcome, you’re a new member. If not, the IP was placed on the block list. It took three windows open and cutting/pasting info. Less then a minute per check.

I may have spent 20 min or so a day “running” the place when it was active and I had registration open.

Checking e-mail is usually a subject search for either member problems or registration - probably less than 1%.
The rest of the emails can get me all sorts of physical enhancements, better sex, women from Russia…. Spam.

I started asking (the vBulletin forum) about downloading individual threads and where/how they were stored on the server. Was told to do just what you had.
There’s a save as pdf option where you can save a full page from the thread.

Now if only saving old threads could bring back the photos that were removed when Photobucket decided to change their TOS, effectively destroying hundreds of thousands of great threads all over.

Has there been anyone interested in taking over?

Agreed - the Photobucket thing was a fiasco and kind like the Titanic’s ice berg hit. Took the place down slowly but steadily.

    No, nobody’s stepped up.
