Howdy Guys and welcome to another installment of "How to do stuff" (or the first one?)
For today's lesson we're gonna work on learning how to post photos on MBN.
Many times people are using the attach files and while they are attached, they're not visible unless you click on them. Kinda takes the fun out of reading some of the threads.
So the best way to put photos into a thread is to upload them to a host of some sort (mainly Photobucket) and then link the photo to the post.
I'm hoping some of you Photobucket Pros will step into this thread and help out, as I'm PB retarded. I upload to my Yellowdogracing website and then link from there.
How do I link you ask?
It's easy!
Let's use this as an example:
I have this picture on my website.
To put it here, in this thread, I put my mouse over the picture and then right clicked on the desk rodent. It brings up a window with options.
Select the option "Copy Image Address"
Come back here to MBN and the thread you're doing and then use the little "Insert Image" icon -.
That's going to pop up a window with "Please enter the URL of your image:" in it.
Put your mouse into the window and hit CTL V (paste). Don't worry, it'll get rid of the http:// prefix you see in the window (or at least it should - it's already highlighted so it'll paste your stuff over it.). The URL of your photo should show up in the box.
Hit the Okay button and Tada! You've just linked your photo into your thread.
One thing to try to be aware of is photo size. I've found that anything over 800 pixels wide starts getting too large. Use some sort of photo editor and save your pix as 800 wide x what ever height (usually it's a ratio of 800 x 600 or 600 x 800 depending on the orientation) and the photo will fit right into your thread nice and neat w/o making the page 1,000,000 pixels wide.
I know that PhotoBucket has some sort of window next to the pix that has options for linking, but I'm not a PB guy (remember I'm PB retarded). Let's hear how this works from some of our resident PB users.
One last thing:
Don't use the Insert Link iconto post photos. It doesn't work, it just links to the place where the photo is, but it doesn't display the photo.
Next I'll try to figure out how to post YouTube videos - but that's been an odd one for me. Often when I hit a video, I end up getting taken to some weird place that has a URL that's 3,461.6 characters long and it doesn't work for me. I'll go in and look at the post and it seems that it's linked correctly, but something's not right. It may very well be a MacBook thing, though

So go to photobucket.
Upload pics.
Once uploaded and in it's folder.
Click on photo (like this) you'll see the direct link. Copy that direct link.
Now come to this page. While posting. See this yellow/grey icon that looks like a mountain with a yellow sky. Click on this and paste the copied link in the pop up
This will post the pictures like this.
This will make your pictures show up in the comments.
**** any YouTube video. To post to on this thread. All you need to do is copy the URL and post it on the comments. It will generate a video player

I gave up on Photobucket! It was too frustratingly slow and at times it was hard to pull up recently uploaded images. Also the App on my Iphone would let me edit but there is no Resizing on the app. So i had to transfer back to the desktop page.
Last few pics I had posted using IMGUR which was suggested by someone else on here. It was much faster and easier to use.Roketa LT Conversion

while ditto on the p-bucket speed, i'm still using it--desktop. however, I use the last link "IMG" and just paste it directly in the thread. skips the need to use the mbn pop-up and insert. i've found 585 pixel width to be a really nice size for keeping the thread from spilling out and requiring scrolling over to read text or look at the side of a picture.
on youtube, just remember to delete the "s" from "https" if you're logged into your account when copying the url for pasting into a thread.Last edited by Xbird; 05-01-2014 at 02:15 AM.
