These are pics of a (now dead six window) 450hp C-15 CAT diesel just removed from one of the (parts) trucks that came in at work. They speak for themselves. These are million mile engines and are NOT prone to this type of failure. We havn't got the whole story on what happened to it but in all my years of wrenching on everything from soup to nuts I have not seen anything like it. The nearest we can figure is that this truck was a steep grade runaway and the driver just left it in gear as he had no other choice. They will not come apart like this on their own.

Not buggy related but I thought some would find it interesting.

P.S. Last two pics are of one of two 09 Pete's that came in today to be built and an 06 KW that we will start on soon.

Definitely looks like damage was caused by a runaway.

I read elsewhere about a mechanic who replaced a blown turbo on a Volvo truck, but did not remove and clean out all the engine oil out from the intercooler. Long story short, the oil heated up and was now feeding the engine causing a runaway. The driver pushed in the clutch, grabbed neutral, and ran like a bat out of hell. Engine scattered itself much like these pics show.

I didn't know what a dead cat looked like--let alone one that cost $30k.

I have seen pics of 'free cats' that were just laying there.

Wow... weak point in that engine were the conn rod bolts.

    Should have gone ARP...

joking... I wonder what the rev's were at when they gave out? And which cylinder fragged first.
