    Exhaust heat wrap
    #1
    Question
The exhaust on my buggy runs between me and the engine and gets quite hot so I was wondering has anyone used exhaust heat wrap on their buggy and is it any good? I don't really want to have to make a new pipe that runs on the outside of the engine as I don't think it will look as good, any suggestions appreciated!

I use it, DEI from the local auto store. i've got a 4v air cooled engine sitting about 10 inches behind my back with two headpipes coming to within 6 inches of the seat. got toasty real fast. Wrapping the pipes--went all the way to the muffler--made a huge difference, plus it's also keeping some of the heat away from the jug/head area.

FYI--get good stainless steel hose clamps-- a plus if you can find the narrow width clamps -- and don't even bother with the band clamps that come with the wrap. use zip ties when wrapping it, then replace those with the hose clamps when you're happy with the wrap job.

You can also buy the Heat paint (DEI has this as well) to coat the wrap once you get assembled to the pipe. That will help protect water from getting trapped in-between the pipe and the wrap itself. I have used both on a buggy and custom ATV pipe, it does help contain the heat. The best thing is ceramic coating, but that costs a lot more.

You can ceramic coat at home for not much money.

If you have a blastcabinet airbrush and old over or use the air dry coating.

Customs39 called me 2 or 3 times, His work looked good.

    It's easy to do.

    I sent him extra stock.

    I don't have a 20K vib polisher.

Still keeps the heat in the header....

Other ceramic coating than the shiny stuff
