Fl250 with arctic cat 500cc question

Bought an fl250 that's already been swapped out with an arctic cat 500cc FA engine. Couple of questions. It apparently has the stock fl250 driven clutch on it. Will cat motors hex clutch work with no problems on the fl250 driven clutch? I've rode it several times but it didn't have much top end speed, maybe 40ish. And the couple times I got it to those speeds the drive belt flipped upside down. What would cause that? After a few times it destroyed the belt. I believe it was using an fl250 belt, it was a comet 300628 belt. I don't have a tach but it seemed the engine would have to rev pretty high to accelerate. I havnt rode any 2 stroke cvt toys before though so maybe I'm just not use to there engagement RPM's.

Top end speed is governed by rpm and gear ratio I would think 40ish sounds about right depending on engine rpm

I've seen the specs before but thought an fl250 topped out around 50mph? I want it to be capable of speeds up to 70ish. But what of the belt flipping upside down?

It could be geared to go 70, but at a cost of being quick. most ridin a quick 50 would be more fun than a slow 70, unless your driving bonaville.

Your pullys are out or the belt is ??? to make it flip.

Belts flip from being out of alignment

With apprx 60hp I don't see how it would be slow geared for 70ish. It's a small frame and snowmobiles, which is what the motor is off of, do 80+mph...

I guess at this point speed would have more to do with gearing than power though. Is it possible to re-gear the fl250 driven clutch? What about switching for heavier drive weights? I think it revs to high before engagement and needs them anyways.

i dont know for sure. think ive seen someone say like 9:1 or something. I did find a site that said they had kits to re-gear the fl250 box for more top end or bottom end. However, im not sure if its something they have in stock, but it was listed on their site. I just dont remember what site it was now.

Poor alignment can cause the belt to flop over ALSO ,if the distance between the engine sheave and driven sheave is too much that would allow too much slack in the belt resulting in late engagement (jigh RPM) This scenario will also diminish the effective range of the CVT.
