My basic thought is this. Turn the bike motor sideways in the front of the buggy like they do in Legend cars.I could then run a driveshaft to the back and use a independent centre section like the ones in the back of a Honda CRV. One could always put a Samauri transfer case in the mix and build a 4 wheel drive model. As far as traction goes it should have the same weight transfer affect as a regular buggy. Really trying to keep it compact and as light as possible. With the cost of a RZR 1000 being in the area of 20G. I should be able to build this south of that number and have a 1 off buggy.

How about staring with a Suzuki samurai and gutting the heck out of it?

Sounds like that's about what you want.

The Samauri are a great little truck. I've had 3 of them from stock to modified rock crawler. I want to be lighter than that and have independent suspension front and back. Not necessarily in 4wd configuration.Does anyone know where I can find out the weight difference between 1.25-166 pipe and DOM the same size per ft.

Pipe is all over the board as far as strength, 1020DOM is going to be far more consistent.
A 4 seat SXS really is the "mini"est 4 seat , not a bad guide as far as WB, layout, etc.
My 4seater is really more of a full size buggy using Toyota FWD trans and V6 turbo'd.
Hard to call it a "mini" with 10.75 fronts and 33 blasters.

Before you flat out refuse a samurai, google gsxr samurai. A guy put a 750 then a busa engine in it. Bike sprocket to sammy gearbox. 30 fwd gears, 6 in reverse, total weapon. I really want to do the same thing, well worth a look

Oh I'm a long time sami fan. We've done propane, turbo charged, super charged.VW stand alone injection.6.5 /1 transfer cases, twin stacked, toyota mini axle with longfields. I have a 4dr tracker and a set of toyota axle I could use to build this . This is my problem, I cannot run the trails here with that set up. The trails only permit ATV/UTV use. Sami have a registration and use vehicle parts so cannot be registered as UTV/ATV.This is why I am trying to design a small 4 seat 2 or 4wd buggy. It's a stupid rule but someone thinks 4wd vehicles do more damage to the trails than a UTV?

hi Roc and welcome to MBN
if interested in a 2wd, we can design and build you a 4 seat frame that uses the main suspension and drivetrain components off our SS1000 2 seat buggy
whether just the frame , then the rest of the parts are available off our site,,,or rolling chassis or ship your motor here and build complete.
or you could get one of our front end kits and rear end kit and build the middle 4 seat section yourself,,, this way all the suspension, steering and drive train are already engineered
if interested you can email me direct protodie@protodie.com

    Ahhh, that makes sense.

Scratch the Sami! That was a dumb idea anyway! Geesh, who brought that up!

Soo, front engine. Is there enough room for a diff,an engine and suspension mounts in the front?

I was just looking at the Honda pioneer (come on Honda!) 1000 video on you tube. They squeeze 4 seats into a pretty small package! Maybe go to your Honda dealer and take a look at one in person, get some measurements/ideas?

Such a weird rule. Over here its the opposite. Has to be road registered otherwise you get fined for driving an unregistered vehicle. Even dirt bikes need full road rego.

We are still required to be plated and insured but they use a atv/utv plate different from a vehicle plate. The rule is to stop full sized rigs from tearing up the trails which are shared use with snowmobiles, bikes, atv, utv.

Bullnerd, Sami isn't a dumb idea, just I have my hands tied with some silly regs thats all. I would build a Sami in a heartbeat but getting tickets every time out sucks. I'll take a look at the Honda.
