    odypilots 600 Pilot
    I have been chasing an odd electrical issue that would cause the SkiDoo (Rotax) engine in the Pilot to shut off. It would immediately restart, run as if nothing was wrong, and then shut off again. Over and over. With my other buggies to drive, it eventually got pushed to the back of the garage. Well, I got tired of seeing it sit there, so I went back into it.

    I stripped off all the extras, brighter than stock headlights, horn, etc. Still no joy. A web search had me thinking CDI box, as I had a extra MPEM and other electrical bits to swap in that didn't help.

    I can't be positive until I get it out on the dirt, but it appears the problem has been found. It would stall out after a minute or two while at home. Then I found a thread in which a guy loaned his snowmobile to a friend who had fouled the plugs, and ran out to get a replacement set, after which his engine exhibited the same problems as mine.

    It appears the use of non-resistive spark plugs generate enough electrical noise to interrupt the spark. No way it could be that easy. Yes, way. It will run until I get tired of waiting for it to die. It's one of those things that make me extremely happy and sad at the same time. All that sitting, and all it needed was resistive plugs!

    Add that to your collective knowledge and you could be a hero to someone with a bald spot from scratching their head.

    Very happy to see you got that one up and running.

    I knew resistor plugs were necessary in specified applications but never knew it would be that important. Cool find!

    BTW - did you get the Briggs up and running?

    good info, I haven't had that issue but will check my plugs anyways, along with my spares.

    I NEVER would have believed it could be THAT important.

    Yeah, the Briggs is good to go. I never could get those pins you sent me for the wiring harness seated, so the fix was a couple of paper clips stuck in the connector, and jumpered to ground.

    I went thru my spares, too, and dumped any non resistive ones.

    So, for the first time I believe, all 4 buggies are up and running at the same time!
