So a couple years ago I built this thing and in the end i swapped a CBR954RR engine into it. And while it’s stupid fast it is also loud, twitchy, stupid fast, difficult to control and drive, and every time i drive it something breaks...motly i’ve caught up with this but the fuel system i have is not capable of keeping up with the engine.

So I’m putting a milder engine in and am really leaning toward the Predator 670. I want to keep the Geo Metro gearbox I’m running, though. Has anyone seen a setup like that? I’m not looking at being able to row through the gears, i expect to tie in with a clutch or cvt and what I’m hoping is that i’ll be able t9 use may e 3rd or 4th as a running gear but be able to drop into lower gears for climbing or pulling.

Just looking for input, advice, or suggestions about this project...what kind of hassles I might be in for.

    Thanks!

I remember seeing a video where a kid put a 5 hp engine in a little Toyota pick up truck. It wasn’t fast but he went through the gears and it was useful on the farm..lol

I looked through your posts on buggynews.com. Quite a project!

How much horsepower are you getting out of your current engine? A Predator 670 is only 22 horsepower in a stock configuration. If you spend some $$$ and get a new camshaft, modified exhaust, new carburetor and mill the heads, then you're looking at about 40 horsepower. Your buggy is a four-seater, so it won't be a speed demon.

With the jackshaft setup you have on your buggy, your could adapt a set of CVT clutches to work with the transmission.

The CBR lump makes about 150hp...but it's really high strung, revs crazy fast, is loud, super touchy...you know, like it's meant to be a high performance motorcycle engine or something. It's actually really well paired with the buggy if your goal is to go fast and hard, but that's not what I do anymore. I mostly just putt around and I don't even like putting my kids in it because it's wilder than I had thought it'd be when I put it together. I've mostly outgrown going fast in buggies...I just want something to put around the fields with my kids.

Wouldn't it just be easier to limit the 900? Hell you could just pick a gear and leave it there. Just make it so you can't shift.

That's what I was doing...it stayed in 4th and I just shifted the geo tranny it was routed through. It was still really wild.

I'd say your better off going a big bore 2 stroke. Heaps of tourque down low. Under powering your buggy will be just as bad as overpowering it.

Or even better a drive train out of a small car.
All dressed up and waiting for the beer to arrive.

I'm not so worried about underpowering it...the 670 Predator with basic bolt ons makes a little more power than the stock Roketa 800. I think I've outgrown my ability to deal with two strokes lol. I looked at swapping in a Geo G10 but to get it required either loosing half my suspension travel or redesigning my suspension from the ground up.

I even tried sixth. The only thing it changed was making it harder to get rolling, but once it’s rolling it’s balls to the walls chaotic. Seriously in a tight single seater it would be incredible..in the big flimsy GK34 it’s just too much.
