    I have Volkswagen Type 1 cv axles for the 1971-1980 generation Beetle. I haven't decided on what outer stub axles to use yet, because I'm trying to find the rear wheel hub and bearing assembly to use. Pretty much the above post #69 will get you up to speed on what I'm looking for. The other pages are just me asking questions on if I made a good choice on CV axles. I do have the cv axles on hand.

    Still need bearings and seals. Will also need the outside hub w bolt pattern ya running. My first I got all from junkyard for like $50. Axles cv’s bearing housing and hubs.
    New you should go w a mircostub kit.
    What are using for center drive? Think I saw something about the Polaris fnr

    So the FNR gearbox fell through, so I wont be using one. It's just going to be a regular live axle spool with a brake rotor and sprocket. The project is being changed from a single, to a two seater in the similar style as a Chenowth F.A.V but with a motorcycle engine. VW Beetle front suspension. Cannot locate them easily for either the Type 1 or 930. It's all custom it seems with the 930. Which is partly why I've contemplated just getting keyed axle stubs made or get rid of my Type 1 CV axles and buy something else like Chevy S10 so it's at least obtainable easily.

    So I'm now completely stumped and out of ideas. Wheel hub/bearing assemblies do not exist on aftermarket sites for the 1968-1980 VW Bug for the rear end. Stub axles no problem, bearing housings, boxed swing axle housings. Just not the splined wheel hub.

    So I feel like a dang moron. Turns out that these older VW bugs, the drum brakes double as the wheel hub. The bearings have it's own housing. Disc brake conversions, the rotors act also act as the hub.

    For rear trailing arms, what is something that will work with stock cv axles? 2x3 3x3? I'm not sure what I should look for. I'm debating on either buying premade trailing arms, or I may build my own.

    Volkswagen CV axles don't allow the cv joints to move in and out as much as the Chevy S-10 CV axles, for example. You need to carefully design the trailing arms.

    The DesertKarts Panther plans use Volkswagen CV axles and he had the rear-end all worked out. I had a copy scanned as a .pdf. I'll look and see if I can find it.

    Edit: Amazingly, I found the scanned pages in just a few minutes. It must be your lucky day!

    Well, almost. I can't figure out how to upload a file, just images. I'll figure it out tomorrow.

    In the meantime, the key for the trailing arms is to angle the arms out slightly when you mount them. If you mount them straight back, then the CV axles have to move in and out. With the trailing arms angled out slightly, the trailing arms move in an arc equal to the length of the CV axles. You'll see what I mean when I get the plans posted.

    I had very little understanding and bought Type 1 CV axles, mainly due to cost though vs 930 cv axles. Though at this point I'm kind of committed to this, so trying to make it the best that I can. I've been trying to read up on Baja bug conversions to see what is used. Tires I've finally got squared away 31x10.5x15 rear, 235/75/15 front. Going for about a 13.8:1 jackshaft final gear ratio, may go lower depending on engine. I realise kind of too late how much 12 degrees was for the angle, couldn't find much for references. So my ignorance seems to be costing me. Maybe more time searching could have paid off.Anyway, how about just taking screen shots either by mobile, or I know Windows 8.1 and 10 have some sort of cropping the screen to take a screen shot. Its how I've gotten around some websites security features for copying images. I try to get on here once a day, I may have to look on my settings, but, I wish there was an email notification when there's a new post in your thread or subscribed thread.With this project and I've changed my mind on several things with it over the last year or two, but going two seater, not one and I'm trying to loosely base it off the US military Chenowth F.A.V buggy, not the two seater with the third up above, but the regular two seater. I need to keep the width in check however as Nebraska only allows up to 74" wide for UTVs, but I want to keep it at 60" or a bit under from outside each tire.
