Hey guys I've noticed on my shredder that the rear width of the tires is not as wide as the front, is this normal practice on buggies? Will it make a difference to widen the rear end to match the front width? IMO it would give me better stability around corners, would I be wrong? I've modified a few things on my build for the better ( I Hope) this would be another?

    Thanks
    Dave

How much difference is there? I like to keep the front and rear widths (outside of tires) about the same, but I've come across plenty of buggies where the front is slightly wider than the rear. You are correct it is more stable that way. But a narrower rear also makes turning better with a locked rear axle.

Years back we started narrower in the front.
We noticed the improvement when it was changed to run about 1" wider in the front than in the rear.

so a touch wider in the front is better for steering with a live axle,

If the front is wider, when the body rolls as in going into a turn ,it transfers more weight to outside front, planting the tire better than the outside rear.Thats at least what I've read.

i like to use the same tire and the same track front and rear (that is with dirt tires.... obviously the track with sand tires will be different)

if you drive a lot of high speed on soft surfaces like sandy washes or snow i would highly recommend to go with the EXACT same track.... if your rear is a little smaller it will constantly switch between tracking the left or right front tire groove.... makes the car feel "nervous" and unstable (<<< lol ...i love that smiley)

Just look at it from this angle

    and not this angle

It bothered me a little in the beginning but it doesn't anymore. It certainly helps with turning and makes it a little easier to slide through a turn.
