I personaly am looking forward to what the end product will be....I like the idea of a narrower buggy...I have always loved the looks, design, and concept of the Drakarts, but the width has always been a big killer to me....
Stay busy Steve, and keep us informed!!!!

I am going with the RPM gear box which is respected around here. With the ability to offer optional ratios, it will be possible to gear down for taller tires. That seems to also be a desire of the hard core trail guys. I am thinking geared for top speed of 75 at redline with 27" tall BFGs on 14" rims. The bigger rims also allow for more offset therefore narrower width with same suspension.

Now this sounds like a very promising way to go.

I only have experience with one of the very first Draks in the country, so the basis for my data is very dated, but I always felt that the Drak's tranny ratio (4ish:1?) was something that could have been improved on. *The car was capable (theoretically) of what, 140? (: with this ratio. *Dropping it down to 7:1 or so would probably have made the old thing launch like a booster rocket and actually top out because of reaching red line, not because it (engine) couldn't push the car faster.

Being able to dial in the entire drive train from engine to clutches to gearing to compensate for tire diameter and intended use is fantastic.

just a little info for you too Live - with 29" tall BFG's on 15" rims running and 8:1 RPM, the old Dez would hit right at 90 mph with the old Arctic Cat triple spinning 8200 rpm. *That was pretty much it.

I'm now running a setup that uses an engine that revs to 8K, still running the 8:1 tranny and now 33" tall tires - If I can get the engine and clutching dialed in I'm hoping to hit right about 100 to 105. *I'm actually considering switching to a 9:1 for better out of the hole and loosing about 10 on top. *There are some long straights out in the desert, but I'd like to gear down just a bit for the tighter stuff.

    Sorry, babbling... *

With livewires help I am actually reducing my gear ratio, 4:1 oem, *By means of the cvt itself, changing some diameters etc, cant wait to see how that works out...Kfab, what is the diameter of your team driven clutch?

It is 4.714:1. I used to think it was 4.1:1. I counted the teeth myself though. I once calculated top speed at 130 for 25" tall tires. I think my 2000 would hit 100, but not sure on the later ones. That is until the 660 Turbo car was clocked at 98 by Dirt Wheels. That car was geared the best due to having a lower RPM range, but was still high. So a lot of the clutch faces were not being used.
