I got a Auto-Meter programmable temperature gauge, it has two ground switches. You can program a low temperature point and a high temperature point at which the ground switches will close. By using a DED-HPR Dedenbear relay connected to high temperature ground wire coming from the temperature gauge, at the temperature I set on the gauge , it will close the ground switch and turn on the light on my steering wheel. When I am driving I focus on the track and I need a big light on the steering to warn me if the water temperature is too high. I used a LED rear brake light on my steering wheel. It works really well. They supply wiring instructions on how to install the relay.
