Anyone do a 4x4 version of either of these? I searched but don't see what I'm looking for.

Our plan is to build a hybrid of these as a SxS killer for our race team but need 4x4 so looking for ideas, pics, thoughts etc. It will have a UTV based drivetrain hopefully the Rotax 100cc and CVT trans n such. We run the Dirt Riot series and will be moving up to Ultra4 with it. We have the ST4 plans and have read all of Tut's mini lite info and designing our beast now. Thanks in advance for ur input!!!

4x4 buggies are pretty rare. Getting the drive to the front wheels and maintaining a lightweight buggy with long suspension travel is quite challenging, particularly with the smaller chain driven buggies. Think its quite hard to drive the front with long travel as the CV joint maxes out when you turn the wheels at extremes of suspension. It either limits your travel or ruins your steering.

I am not aware of any plans for 4x4 buggies. Here is a link to a european autocross website where a few of the buggies are 4x4 with a chain drive to the front. Not what you asked for but its a starting point i guess.

Thanks for the input. I don't believe chain drive for our scenario is where I'll go. Looking at picking up either a salvaged SxS or ATV as some of the drivetrain. Looking at possibly using IFS car Diffs if we bump up any higher thank 29-30's the SxS diffs from what I'm reading get "strained" and the change of implosion is highly increased. I know it's a trade off with weight and all but in our scenario strength and 4x4 is needed since rocks are mixed into the racing.

So when you say long travel and CV joint maxes out when you turn the wheels can you elaborate on that or point me to something in the other sections I may have missed. Are we talking a limitation of a CV joints flexing capabilities and if so what is that degree wise? We are shooting for 20" of travel which from what I see is doable and I'd even ponder VW equipment if need be... Again thanks for the input I appreciate it! So much to learn!

yes there have been few 4x4 builds Im one of them and a lot of work to retro fit 4x4 in 2x4 chassis. lots to consider mostly room and if your crafty you can do what ever you want. I have just started back up in my build after time off for family things and life got in the way but im back to it now
