View Full Version : Spindle ackerman angle

I'm currently altering a homemade off road kart with no suspension I bought. I'm planning on adding a rack and pinion but now I'm reading about ackerman angle for the spindles and now I'm a bit lost. The steering arms are facing the front of the kart instead of the back. This appears to be opposite of the way it is supposed to be. Am I over thinking a simple steering system for a small kart? Or should I be putting the steering arms facing the back of kart with a good ackerman angle?

Doesn't matter. If front steer arms, then the mount for that steering tierod bolt should be closer to tire. Correct way, draw line(string) thru spindle to center of rear axle on the line is where center of bolt should fall.

I think I get what your saying. The steering arms at the moment are pointing in towards the front of the kart that seems wrong. If there in front they should point in towards the back of the kart correct?

Looking from over head big V going thru ea
Spindle line tip v center rear axle. The can be anywhere on this line.
