View Full Version : Wheel chocks for the trailer

I changed tire diameter a little while ago on the XPs. The wheel chock/lock things that I had for the 26" tires don't work with the 29x10's. Crap.

So I decided to upgrade on my last design. No tools required to install these, unlike the need for a 1/2" socket on the last set.

I'm using E-trak on the trailer and the chocks mount directly into the track with a set of the tie down pieces.

This set has the locks set up so they can rotate and move about and it's one lock per corner. It's a tad complicated and cumbersome, but it works.

The next set will only use two of the locks and they'll be cut into two parts, so it'll more or less act like one big, long span lock.

Using the E-Trak allows me to set different track widths for different vehicles.

Anyhow, here are a few pix of the latest project:

I still have to do the upper retainer loop and the hinges. I've set it up so that the loop won't tag the upper a-arms like my last set and that they'll still drop down below horizontal a bit, so when the vehicle tries to back up, it actually pulls the loop down and tightens it's grip on the tire.

I may do a diagonal kicker from the uprights back, but I have to make sure they don't interfere with the spindles or a-arms.

I've been TIG welding everything - practice for the Mini-Raptor... (which these should fit)

What does it say on the tape?

What does it say on the tape?"Keep with bandsaw" - which I'm not doing at the moment...

I also have one that says "Stays with shear" - and it is.

And I have one that's presently MIA and can't for the life of me figure out where I set it down.

Hey Bull - wanna set of wheel chocks? They were originally made for the Briggs. Cover shipping and you'll end up with a couple sets.

You mean the one I had my hand on and you said " you can't have that!" ?

LOL , sure.

Finished up the first pair and modified the mounting system.

I wasn't happy with those rotating and having to be put in one at a time mounts. Instead, I cut two mounts in two, eliminating half the mounts, and then welded the pieces on the ends of the mounts.

Three of them ready for TIG time.

Mounted in the trailer. They fit perfectly. WOO HOO!

I have to knock out two more and I'll be done.

I'm 90% sure they'll fit a 30" to 31" tire (Mini-Raptor), but if not, it's a pretty easy fix; just make the capture hoop longer.

It takes all of 5 seconds to remove/insert. Press the retainer clip, insert the retainer end into the E-trak, drop the other end in the other piece of E-Trak, push the thing forward and the retainer clips pop in place. Removal is push clips, pull and lift. SIMPLE!!

Slick!

You get a new trailer?

How long?

8.5' x 20'

Wasn't planning on one quite this large, went to take a look at some and saw it and, well....

They made me a cash deal I couldn't refuse! Drive over fenders (Dez fits), open, easy to add and modify stuff on. I've already added the front box and changed out all the lights to LED.

Gonna make 5' aluminum ramps for it and a setup to store them under it.

Go salvage yard and get a couple of truck spare tire hangers. 2 spares below the deck is nice.........

Weld lug nut sized nut to scissor jacks. Electric impact super fast lift...............

If you have 2 spares you will never need them. If you have one spare, you will need to at once.........

Great idea on the scissor jack mod. I won't be carrying an impact, though. Space is a little limited on the XPs. I'll still probably make the jacks driven with a 17mm nut, though.

odd - you don't see many salvage yards here in Snottsdale - Hell, it's been a bitch finding a quarter car wash; everyone here gets their vehicles washed, they don't seem to wash them themselves.

What you do see, though, is bleached blonde women in their 50's wearing spandex/leather/overly tight stuff they shouldn't (cellulite in showing through purple leather is NOT attractive - yes, I've seen it) and looking like fish because of all the Botox and face lifts! [smilie=non_banana2:

Snottsdale........ AKA, the whitest town in America. Now you can start singing one of My favorite songs, "New boob's on an old lady".

Junk yards are south Phoenix, your on the wrong side of town for that.
