Has anyone got some info on a battery and motor set up like a Barbie car only more substantial? Got my first grand child in January and would like to build something nice that my daughter doesn't need to do anything but plug in. Expecting more babies so it won't be idle much.

Very nice. That's the idea. This example is more refined than needed for my purpose.
A diff would be good. Some kind of rheostat throttle control for ease of operation.

TNC Scooters (http://tncscooters.com/)

Found some likely candidates for motors and controllers.
And a good write up about electric motors and what they need.

Duane, when I was contemplating making the campground cruiser electric, I researched on diygokarts.com. Great info over there. Look forward to seeing the build!

Check out ModifiedPowerWheels.com • Index page (http://forum.modifiedpowerwheels.com/)

Tons of ideas from modifying stock "powerwheels" to building from scratch. I modified my son's hand-me-down powerwheel by upping the voltage x2, converting to pneumatic tires, adding lights, etc... Phase 2 was going to be a 36v system sourced from TNC as linked above but he is more interested in building a buggy now...

Yeah, I'd probably look to build something simple with little/no suspension and maybe search around forba used golf cart for motor/drive parts, searching craiglist, I bet you can find some great old electric golf carts for sale and that should be ideal without having to figure out too much. Just make sure ther is a roof seat to so it can be an adult toy as well..:)

Look into powered wheel chairs for the driveline too.
