Starting this thread to show some of the build and & upgrades we do along the way of our racing journey.

We bought our Wildcat from MLS PowerSports and started racing it the following weekend. We have a lot of sponsors that help us out along this journey and we are very appreciative of their support! The latest of who is MLS PowerSports. Adjustable TBar aka "OCrap" handle for the codriver. Attached to the tube under the glove box with only a 1 1/8" hole drilled. Clamp is accessible from the panel below the glove box.

Some Beard Ultra T1 Racing Seats. Fit real nice and lower the seating position just a tad for better COG. Factory mounts were used and a release handle accessible from the side allows for removal of the seat for cleanup after muddy races!

True dat! It's always like X-Mas around here and why for X-Mas we usually do a trip for everlasting memories than just more "stuff". Now if I could only find someone to make it fill like X-Mas with my Tut Tech Chassis and goodies!!! :D

Thanks Xbird! #13 is my lucky number! Our other race right is #1313. I was born on September 13th and in fact on a Friday too! :eek:

You maybe right, well at least on the side mirrors. The multiview mirrors are different to use and will take a bit getting use to. With the lower seat height now, higher angled position of the mirror because on cage mounting limitations in combination with wearing helmets I'm not 100% sure I'm comfortable removing the side mirrors yet.

To your point or is that joke?.....if you're not the fastest one on the track good mirrors are a life saver for keeping your eyes on who is crawling up on your behind! Last race we were the fastest ones on the track with consistent 14m laps. In fact the next SxS/UTV was 1:10 slower and racing in the Pro Class the BTF KOH $200K+ buggy had lap times 1:46 slower!

We can't let that go to our heads though! The next race is at Gray Rock near Birmingham AL and Brave Motorsports will be there in their KOH built Arctic Kat Wildcat which started off as an X and is one fantastic built machine! So we'll be out gunned a bit! Nice thing is my team will be extending our good sportsmanship practices, like we do for other race teams, by being their pit crew too since they usually run the MidWest Dirt Riot series and won't be bringing there full crew with them. In fact there maybe a possiblity their co-driver won't be able to make it so I've offered up my son who usually co-drives with me to help out there too. At least I'm hoping he gets the opportunity to do that! Would be a fantastic experience for him! :cool:

that was a joking props to your first place. where i race with faster bikes and atvs all on course at the same time for multiple laps a good mirror is a lifesaver -- for you or them. thankfully i've got that instinctive, "damn i'm slow better pull right" ability to hear/sense those coming up behind me. I still don't have a mirror setup that i'm happy with. thinking about hanging a truck side mirror off it!

I got the radius rods in today and they look pimp. Looks like some weekend work and testing to do! [smilie=biggrin.gif]

A few updates. Doing some prep work for the Sturgis Kentucky race on June 7th. I added some tubes to the cage. If time permits I'll add a few to the back too but that might happen after the race because of other things with higher priority. This work will at least help with side rolls.....

Dash bar under factory "ROPS" couplers. Continues the line up from the tubes in the door area.

VBars go from dash bar to roof bars. I reversed the V that most do because it would've hit the roof line in the middle of the two factory bars that go to the rear. I like to continue tube junctures as much as possible. VBars have couplers encase I redo the factory "ROPS" cage later.

Replaced all the wheel studs with larger 12mm ones. Big difference over the OEM ones! The "tuner" keyed lugs allow for less damage to slikcoat on wheels.

Starting 2015 Race preps now.

Upgrades will include:
- Wildcat X motor thanks to Mark @ MLS Powersports. Thank you Mark!
- Performance exhaust.
- Intake Mods (more on that later).
- Placement changes of different motor items that may need serviced when racing. More details later as we're doing the work.
- Other motor goodies. More details later as we're doing the work.
- UHMW skids and sliders from Factory UTV. Thank you Bob!
- Removing factory doors and tubing it all in.
- Tie in the door tubing to the cage to better handle the rack of the A pillar with more triangulation and such.
- With tubing in doors larger side panels for Sponsor decals and/or a full wrap.
- Performance brakes (Rotor and pads).
- Fox dual bypass rear shocks.
- Ball joints.
- Steering upgrades to rack and cable.
- Misc other mods as time and $ permits. Also have buggy upgrades for the rock crawler to accomplish.

Hey that looks like fun! I still hear rumblings about a Yamaha Nytro engine in the works for the WildCat. If they do that, it will really scoot!:D

That looks like a fun ride! Would love to see that on the dunes, better yet, drive it on the dunes. I have a Desert Dog Coyote that has the Haybusa engine setup, only one they built. All the other Coyote's used an R1000 with a turbo, made over 200HP and really moved.....

A challenge for Arctic Cat producing a Wildcat with that much HP is redesigning the rest of the drive train to handle it.....yet along beefing up other areas to handle the abuse associated with more speed n such....

As for the series we race in we're limited to UTV based and 1000cc for sportsman and for pro the addition of forced induction...... There aren't any "unlimited" classes.....

Its always a balance, more power means modifications to the drive train, suspension, etc. I read through the build on the modified arctic cat, interesting to see they used a polaris transmission to support the engine.

I was actually thinking of a Yamaha drivetrain in one of those while driving to Chicago tonight. They did it with the new Yamaha Viper. Its a Cat chassis, with the awesome Yamaha 1000. Seems like a match made in heaven! I have been watching so many comparisons with the Maverick, the RZR 1000, and the Wildcat. In the drags, its so close, the hill climbs in the dunes they are close. I like how the chassis is longer and lower. Plus all that suspension! What are some of the weak points of these Cats?

The low center of gravity is a huge plus when racing as is the suspension especially when jumping and bumpy terrain. Here are some of the weak points we've found while racing one hard. Some of these are also inherit issues in the razors or any other model to when pushing them to the limits. Aftermarket support is great and fixes for most of what I'll mention are available.
- OEM A-arms are weak and need beefed up or replaced with stronger ones like Evolution Powersports chromoly ones.
- OEM radius rods are .75" thin walled material. The lower ones will be the first to go. High clearance and stronger ones are available via aftermarket sources. We have a custom built T7075 full set with 3/4" chromo heim joints.
- Tie rods are weak. Evolution Powersports & Pace Offroad have great replacements.
- In 2014 the steering setup was changed to billet aluminum components.
- Factory skid plates are inadequate. Lower means closer to the rocks of rock crawling. 3/8" & 1/2" UHMW are available via Factory UTV and a few others companies.
- If going with larger tires axle shafts will need to be beefed up.
- 2013 and prior non Xs used a wet clutch. Team Rapid Response clutch added in Xs.
- CVT housing cooling needs improvement for longevity of CVT belt. Aftermarket cooling kits are available or easy to make.
- Radiator tucked up under all the plastic panels makes it hard to thoroughly clean after muddy trail riding. A lot of heat is also held within the plastic panels. Aftermarket vents are available.
- I'm not a fan of the cable drive steering from steering wheel to EPS unit. Pace Offroad makes a cable delete kit.
- OEM cages have a lot to be desired.
- Harness bar must be added to run 4-5 point harnesses. Dragonfire, UTV Inc and a few other aftermarket have them.

Again most of the "weak links" can be addressed easily and some are also issues with razors. Hopefully that helps a bit. There could be more that we haven't encountered yet. Depending on your riding style and such you may never see some of the things we have either. Endurance racing pushes things to the limits pretty good. Let me know if you have any specific questions.
