I`m going to replace the motor in my Barracuda from the FZR600 with 93hp to a FZS1000 with 143hp. I found a cheap one in E-bay with the bolts holes broken out of the motor block for 300, Euro`s . So I welded those up and grinded the block back up so that it looks ok.

I wanted to post the rest from the pic`s ,first time just didn`t get it right. So here are the rest. Before I write any more ,just want to say I`m from Franklin Pa. came over here to Germany while I was in the Army ,that was for 25 years. So it`s been awhile that I`ve writen anything in Englisch. Not shur what you call this but I made it on the lath to help center by drilling the new holes. Cut new threads for the bolts just have to get some new bolts ,and the motor is as good as new.

Didn`t get the last one uploaded so here is the last one . The exaust is from the FZR it`s a shame I can`t use it for the other motor, not shure what to do with it.

That looks real good. How much is 300 Euros in greenbacks? What kind of country will you ride in?

Looks good to me and you did a good job on the old exhaust , i agree, its a shame it wont work on the new engine.

Thanks for the comments guys, nice to have someone who appricate something like this . Not that many guys here in Bayern do something like this. The doller to euro is 1.33 so thats 399. $ for the block . To where I ride , I have a gravel pit where I can play around and hope to do a little racing next year. I forgot to say that when I started this buggy I was making 2 of them, but that was to much work for one, so I hope to finish that to this winter to.

Sharp dude!

I thought Germany was pretty strict on being enviromentally friendly? Can you tear up the country side or what?

Nice repair work and sharp looking buggy!

Can't wait to buy an AC/DC TIG welder, been telling santa for months now that's all I want for christmas..:)

Michael67
11-14-2013, 01:38 PM
No Bullnerd you cann`t go around rippen up the country side, but there are quit a few offroad tracks here to ride on. So this is how my buggy looks now.

30351

Found the back ball bearings are shot and this after one sommer of riding.

This is how I made my gas and clutch pedal,

30358

didn`t wanna run the cables around the front, so I made a bellcrank to run them strait in.

30356

and you can change how sensative the pedal is .

Not much to post , haven`t had much time for the shop. There is one the to say that I got a GSXR 1000 bj, 2006 with 13600 miles on it for my other Barracuda. When I get the new motor in the first one,and it`s back together I will start on the other one.

11-24-2013, 07:19 PM
Well we will just need to see pics of that then. Ehh?:D

Your repair work looks very good. So you are building 2?

Michael67
12-01-2013, 01:20 PM
Sorry I haven`t posted anything for awhile , the wife allways has a list of stuff to do. And every one who`s married knows ,if you want to work in piece then keep her happy.

So I started by getting the motor lined up and found that I have to change a lot more than I thought. Will write more about that latter. I`ve got the first halter for the motor in .

30421

I make all my halter in paper first , cornflakes box works perfect for that . Then make it sheet bend her up and in she go`s

I for got to answer mmobley`s question, ja I`m building two of these most of the frame work is done on the other one , was working on both of them at the same time but is was just to much . I just wanted to ride ,so I finished the one and put the otherone on hold .I`ll take some pic`s and post .

Now the bottom one`s are cut out on paper will make those tomorrow.

How are you bending them?

I know what you mean about 2 at the same time is too much. Your motor mount designs look very good and strong.

Michael67
12-03-2013, 03:15 PM
So now the halter`s are done in the back of the motor, for the front one`s I`m going to use a thinner sheet. These one`s are 4mm thick and in the front they are going to be 3mm. Hey Bullnerd, I can use are folding bench at work .

I`m going to have to build a new airfilter the stock won`t fit in my frame, electric box has to be shortened. Will post pic`s later.

Thank`s for the comment`s guys, nice to hear. So I got the front motor halter done but not mounted, Ì`ve got to make a new gear shifter my old one won`t fit. So I`ll wait till I know how I`m going to do that .I made these from .158 sheet because they are so long.

This is my shifter lever that I`m using to bring the shifter on the right hand side. Don`t care much for the shifter on the left side. The problem with this motor is that the shifter so high is , you can see this in the last pic. That`s going to be fun. Plan on doing this over Christmas vacation.

Nice Work Mike67! Its looking good and you have really nice metal fabrication skills.

I Like the Alters. How are you cutting them out and do you have a pic of the Brake you use to bend them.

My friend has a Plasma XY axis table which I get most of my plates cut from. But I have to have him cut a Slots where the bend goes so I can bend it on my Vice.

Duane
12-11-2013, 01:35 PM
There is a homebuilt bender thread in Shop Talk that is an easy way to do it.

I`m cutting the halter with a cutting disc and then I drill a hole and cut out the rest with a jig saw. Then I hone down so that it`s smoth. If you want I`ll take step by step pic`s of rest from gear shifter work I have to make.

Parts of the gear shifter that I used on my other motor will work for this motor ,just have to mount those so I can finally get the motor halter finished . I`m hoping to get the rest of the gearshifter done over the weekend .

The pipe is 15/32 diameter ,made the threads on the lathe pressed and welded them up.
30537
I went diagonal to the gear shifter because I wanted the shifting the same as the last motor, pull back to shift down and push to shift up.
30538
30539

Here is how she looks tacked in, when I´m done with everything then I´ll weld her up.30540
Going to clean up the shop over the weekend, want to get the radiator hooked back up to the motor.Just have to find out how the hoses are run, been looking for a diagram but can´t seem to find anything usefull.

Bullnerd
12-27-2013, 02:54 PM
Nice job.

I think anybody that has ever made anything that turns has made that sketch of the gear train sooner or later.

Michael67
01-05-2014, 01:53 PM
I was looking at my old exhaust and was thinking befor I throw it away, see if I could make it work for this motor. Hey it´ll work ,needed to drill the bolt holes bigger and cut it because this motor is a little wider .One pipe just didn´t fit right had to make it longer but that was all.
30553
30554
30555
I don´t have a pipe bender for all the diameter that I need so got to do it the old way, cut, weld and grind.
30556
30557

Michael67
01-05-2014, 02:13 PM
So got it cleaned up and welded together ,cut her up and tacked in.
30558
30559
Had to do the same thing for the last pipe to the muffler ,I got that from e-bay 50.$ with a stainless steel pipe, cut that up and made that work. I don´t like to buy stuff if I don´t have to, you can save a lot of money this way. When I read what some guy´s put in there buggy´s , my wife would go nutt´s.

30562

Michael67
01-05-2014, 02:41 PM
So here is how it look´s finished. Just have to get the cooler hooked up to the motor, then comes the hard part. The electric, that´s not going to be fun takes forever to wire it up . I need a new rev counter ,I´m not going to use one from the bike they are expensive over here.

Haven´t had much time for buggy ,have to build a engine mount for Bruno´s airplane. So as soon as I get that done I´ll get the barracuda back in the shop. I did get one thing done. The thermostat for the motor didn´t look to good with the fill cap so I took that off and made a new one.

It`s ben awhile since I`ve posted something about my buggy, I love this motor, she has so much power it`s crazy .:D:D:D:D
I was afraid she would have something wrong with it because I got everthing from e-bay. I`m talking about the cheap stuff. But hooked her up and she runs like a dream. I just want to get the carburetor`s set and the timing chain checked over. Just to be on the safe side.
The new muffler sounds great, a lot better than the last one, much deaper sound.

I`ve made a few vidio`s with a go pro,but can`t get them on youtube. Will put up link as soon as I get one up.

Hey Bull,it depends on how fast you take it. [smilie=evilgrin.gi: In the vidio you can see that when you get to the top there comes another hill. I use that one to jump, still playing with shocks, need more oil in the back, and a littel more gas all around.
When I get some stuff sold going to buy new tires and rims ,the ones I got are only rated for 80 kmh, up till now I`ve been lucky, but the speed this thing has now is unbelievable.
I`m just going to have to take it easy till then.

I noticed that Augsburg is in Southern Germany. Are there many places to ride (other than the quarry)?

I spent some time in the Ruhr Valley (Ruhrgebiet) many years ago. As you know, it's not the tourist part of Germany. There's nothing but endless city from Duisburg to Dortmund. Millions of people everywhere. I was told that Bavaria is the more scenic part of Germany, but I didn't get a chance to tour the area.

Nice looking buggy. I'm jealous. :)

I have to say it didn`t feal like that hard of a hit ,and I did have the nerf bars on it .It took most of the hit ,or there would have been a lot more bent or broke. The gurts saved my shock.

My ball bearings ran a little hard after the hit ,when I took them out they were ok. so I´m hoping this will be gone when I´m done. Will post a soon as I get it done.

Michael67
01-22-2015, 06:37 PM
So I got everything set up for the heat treatment. This is a lot easier when you have a small oven like this ,don`t take to long to heat up.
31851
31852
31853
31854
After you get it to the right temp, cherry red is good , keep the flame in there to hold the temp for about 10 min. to give the steel time to slacken .Then cöose up as soon as the flame is off ,and let it cool off slowly. Then tomorrow I can drill out the rest of the bent pipe, and get that welded up.
Any body out there like the Duplex , Eno is so cool.

So I just got done looking threw this forum, trying to find out a way to get reverse in my buggy. There just doesn`t seem to be a really good way to get one, cheap. I wanted to build one with a starter motor but nobody seams to be happy with those.Lots of post that they are going to do it but not much info on how well they work.

Yeah mate Im not convinced .
There are 4 units here that I've seen and even fitted one up , Works great on the stands ,They work on flat hard pact dirt as well ,But as for when you get stuck in sand, mud, sloping ground, in rocks or logs etc they don't work
Plus you need to carry large capacity battery to run it , Don't run it too long , and you have to watch the laser cut teeth on the disc as they can strip easy also

No one has tried it yet, but someone recently mentioned using a winch, which got my gears turning upstairs on it. Mounted behind the engine. If one were to replace the winch spool with a sprocket for the reverse drive and put a sprocket with a one-way sealed bearing hub on the engine output shaft as the driven you'd have a chain drive electric reverse with a lot of grunt. ratio of the unit would depend on the reduction in the winch along with the size of the sprockets. In forward gears the one way bearing would freewheel, put it in Neutral, press the button and you're backing up.

Michael67 Hallo.

as you can see in the first two pic`s, I had to change it the starter solenoid wouldn`t work like I wanted. So then came the idea tmake it with cable . and the best thing is I have forward and revers.

Hi,

habe grad dieses Forum entdeckt. Es gibt also doch Interesse an Barracudas in Deutschland. :)

Danke

I'm building for the time one, the base frame is finished.
Wants to take him on the road. Did one with a Cuda? Do you know someone?
Piggery has succeeded with a Piranha than LOF

have rims and tires look held.
Can someone give me a German shop, where I 12 x 10 12 x 7 bead lock wheels and get?
It seems to be difficult to find 12 x 10. Everything I found was intended for quads and therefore not wide enough.
Thank you

When the site got upgraded from the previous version of vBulletin, it removed all the pictures. I've still not been able to get that solved.
