Per a customer request I am just wrapping up designing another single seat buggy to add to our list of models

The goal was to have a 60" wide buggy like our XK450, yet all the power and performance of the 1000cc buggies

This has our XK front end design, combined with our rear engine cradle package off the DXT & 2 seat SS1000

this way you can have the same engine cradle as our other buggies and the option of live axle or reverse

this will definitley be a great trail machine at 60" wide and also have a ton of power to tear up the dunes

XK1000 specs

Front
58-60 wide
16-17 travel front
7 degrees rake

Rear
58-62 wide
12 travel
4 degrees rake

114- 116 long
56-57 tall

1 1/2 dia tubing

here are some design pics

I really like the side vents. Way to tie the 2 models together, and to get rid of some the header heat. Good stuff!

Now your cooking with gas.... Is the whole rear drive line scaled down or just closer mounting points? Are you gonna have the suspension parts for this added to the web site?

I see a few of these in the utvrr in the future.

I agree, this would be a real good fit for UTVRR and the tighter trails.

Yes, after this build the parts will be available on the website.

the changes in the rear are different A arms and a new rear wheel upright that uses the 24 spline micro stub and 3 bolt bearing assembly.
This is a a 5 on 4 3/4 bolt hub

the engine cradle is pretty much the same , has the same mounting points .
you can bolt interchange the a arms and parts to be 68" wide or 58" wide

Is it going to be ready for the 2013 utvrr season?

guess I missed this post.

Currently building the XK 1000 for a customer on the west coast.
so probably will not be in any UTVRR races

not 100% complete turnkey build though.

It will be a 90% complete and powder coated, but no motor and some other items left for the new owner to complete.

I will post some pics in the next day or so

brake is not new,,,had it about 5 years now.

I have a large portion of equipment I like to have on castors or can easily move with a hi low.

so if I need something like the brake for a day or 2 I just move it out where I'm working.

also barely use creepers under cars any more. lift everything up with the for lift where its handy to work on

efficient,,,,,,,,,,or maybe I'm getting lazy :D

Protodie,
With the narrower hub bearings, how much extra length/articulation do you get with the suspension?
If so, are you going to integrate the part into the DXT model for some extra travel anytime soon?

it is the 24 spline micro stub and bearing housing assembly from latest rage. not sure what vehicle it would cross reference too.
.....never checked

the wheel hub to cv distance is approx 1 5/8 shorter per side

I could incorporate this into any of our 930 models and gain a touch more travel. would need longer A arms to go with,,,but all could be done.

not in a rush to do this though. Real happy with our current setup and right now there is a shortage of this micro stub from latest rage. They are waiting for more to come in and it could be another 30 days.
so they will have been out of stock on this part for a couple of months now.
I am sure other bearing housings would bolt right in too.
Just have not put any time into cross referencing to other models right now

we are a dealer for Latest Rage parts (and Empi,,,,,Fox and others) & ship to both Aus & NZ.....and many other places.

bearing housing is $125
micro stub $80
axle nut $7
washers $3

converting it to 4 bolt would be $50 each

packages we can fit in USPS flat rate boxes and are 20 lbs or less cost approx $85 to ship to South Africa

UPS and Fedex are much more

Very nice. Bigger pics are better, you can see more dtail. I like the nut welded on its side for the throttle return spring.

That thing is badass! But I need to ask: Why did you rivet on the body panels?

Nice design. Great photos.

The person that requested this must live in an area with trail width restrictions? It would be interesting to see the performance difference between this and a DXT in the dunes.

Comparing your different models. XK and the DXT have vents in the panels in front of radiators. On the SS is the 'fire wall' perforated in front of radiators?

Thanks guys!

few things have changed over the years and not sure how much cooling difference is between the SS and the DXT or XK with the cooling vents.

way back we had the rad up hi to catch more air, but racing dirt tracks it also caught all the dirt and roost from the car in front of you.
so we added screens and other stuff ,,,,be cause a dirt plugged rad gets no air.

so then moved it lower to protect it from the dirt.
all good.
but when I started running road course it would build too much heat,,,unlike how it performed in the dunes and on the dirt track.

ended up reversing the fans and sucking from the back side to disturb the dead air space behind the fire wall and solved that.
oh, also angled the rads back a few degrees for more room at the top and to help air flow.

the customer did want this narrower because of tighter trail / dune areas that they want to run.

I had a chance to see this buggy frame 3 days ago... Wow, a lot of progress since then. The color scheme
really goes well.

The build quality is fantastic. Jody & crew do terrific work.

Thanks for the kind words guys

I am pleased with this new 60" wide model
actually the paddles put the rear at about 63" wide

Plans: someday when I get caught up :D
eventually want to offer plans for all our buggies

Parts: most parts are similar or the same as parts offered on our website,
if not on the site yet, then they are available for the same price as similar parts on our site

Price:rolling chassis to complete
pretty much the same as our single seat DXT,,, might be a little less

Thanks guys,
Mr Clean,,,,you must have seen my super aerodynamic tan hair cut:D
edit: damn,,I look like a smiley face

no motor or gear box in this chassis, but going to get a weight off it today for shipping
I expect this to weigh around 900lbs complete like our DXT single seat buggy

ProtoDie

just weighed rolling chassis, with radiators, battery, fuel cell, shift linkages,
etc,,,,

658 lbs

add motor, RPM gear box, cvs axles, chain and misc

it will probably weigh out 860- 900lbs

Hey Jody, any chance you have this in a 2-seat unit? I need something that is 60" wide for the ATV trails, but I need to put a bench seat in the front (me and my two small children) as well as 4wd. I'd obviously modify the front and rear drivetrain to accommodate the 4wd system, I just need a good well designed frame as the starting point.

Basically, I need a RZR with a bench seat if you know what I mean

Dave, search "yoot" on here, and maybe talk to Crisco? I thought he said he was going to release the plans Rorty started.

Found it,
