Hey man Welcome to MBN, and at 14 your taking on a big project. What type of buggy depends on what tools you have access to. For your first I suggest looking at the Shredder 2 plans, not to complicated but a cool little buggy. You also have to look at the widths of the buggy, if you want to trail ride it then you have to check to see if there are any width restrictions in your area. In canada we have a 50" limit for the trails, but you can go 53 or so. I hope you will find what you are looking for and feel free to PM me with any questions you may have. Also there are a ton of builders on here that will lend a hand as well. Thats wghat makes this site awesome!! Remember have fun building and dont rush or cut corners. One more piece of advice, start saving for shocks and engines, they are the most expensive pieces of the entire build.

You better pickup an extra lawn or two. Beg, borrow, and stealing parts ST4 will run you $5k and not be the buggy you see in those pics.

The Shredder 2 is an excellent buggy for a young fabber.

I have done that with my ST4 and will have less than $3k into it.

$1500 will be tough to make anything race worthy. You'll eat up a big chunk of that in shocks alone if you go with the "cheap" air shocks at about 200-250 each. Air shocks heat up and fade too fast for long distance races but are alright for shorter runs. For longer races you'll likely want to step up to coil overs, and possibly add bypasses depending on the weight and desired ride.

I'm no racer but maybe they will chime in and set me straight. Hopefully some of the racers on here can give you an idea of the buggy/class they race in, and the costs associated with it. I doubt many race buggies have been built for under 2 grand.

Where are you located? If you are near the PNW I may be able to get you started with something.

Oh, and as far as plans, you DO get what you pay foir, lol. I bought some from one of the frame places, NOT worth the $15 I spent.
