Hey everyone. My name is Randall. Im an enlisted Air Force guy in Las Vegas. I have been going to the dunes (Dumont) with quads for a couple of years and have been looking (dreaming) at the cycle powered mini's for sometime now. I have been riding / alot of track days on motorcycles for about 12 years. blah blah blah. Welding experience is i would say zero unless you count renting one from home depot for 24 hrs to try it out. Hey I somehow got two pieces of metal to stick together. Anyways I just wanted to intro myself here. My goal of being here would be to use the knowledge and experience of the folks here to maybe get into a somewhat nice and affordable but most of all safe buggy for the family to enjoy. Thanks all

Welcome to the site, RSKY.
Out to Dumont, eh? I've seen 'em, but never had a chance to play on them. One day, I hope... So you've tried welding - or what sounds like fusing a couple pieces of metal together. Fun stuff. Practice, practice, practice. Keep it up and you'll get the hang of it. Try to find someone that's willing to help you get a machine set up and then go at it. There are loads of little tricks and techniques to be taught and used. Practice, practice, practice. ![]() Oh - and don't stand under that hot glob of metal that will find the top of your foot, eat through your sock, run down the inside of your arch and make you swear a lot. Trust me - weld enough and it WILL happen. It's amazing how quickly you can get a laced shoe off. ![]()

Thanks for the welcome guys. Yeah i learned my lesson on that first attempt at welding. Had the gloves, mask, thick sweatshirt and jeans and then i didnt think about my feet. Had the low nikes on and that little red ball of pure hell burnt the !@#$ out of my ankle. Guess i learned that lesson.

About a year ago i went over to the sick sand rails shop and checked out for the first time a "mini sand rail" I thought the word mini meant small. LOL i thought they looked pretty big. Then i went to the Sand Sports show in Costa Mesa and saw the full sizers. Those things are freakin huge. I guess im still torn between the two. Prices are pretty close though. I was just suprized by the size of both types. Specially when you look at a pilot or odysee.

Yeah I know what you mean about that. Some of these mini's aren't very small at all... That's my goal with mine...smaller means a better power:weight ratio. But when you have 24" of travel, even the smallest sand car is going to look huge.
