Default Just an old fart from Florence Oregon

Hello everyone I have visited this site on a number of occasions while I was building my rail but after meeting Gene at Sandfest he convinced me that I better check in so here I am.
I've been messin with cars for 50 years from drag racing to street rods and now it's sandrails. I've had a few rails (VW) but wanted something smoother and faster so decided to build me a mini rail from scratch. Ordered a batch of 060 X 1.25 4130 tubing and got started. I wanted it light and functional with out spending a ton of money. So I got an 83 Katana for $100 and a VW carrier for a diff but that's all history.

Last year got an 05 Busa and chopped up an 88 Honda 5 speed for a diff with the dreaded short drive chain that I think I have a handle on making it live. So I end up with 30 forward ratios and 6 reverses so as the joke goes I can go rock crawling or to Bonneville or anywhere in between. Here's some pics ....766 lbs with fuel ....any questions?

How about a pic of the rear set-up? That would be interesting to see.

Cool, I like the belt setup. How did you get the pullies to fit? Is it all custom?

The timing belt is gone.........Gates said their belts were stronger than chain but as soon as I went to WOT the belt started shedding teeth so I'm back to 630 chain

Hi Dale!

I've seen Dale's car and it is innovative and impressive. Super narrow, small and light. I did not get to see it run because it had some issue - like that's never happened to anyone here. This is perhaps the lowest cost Hayabusa build on this site and members could learn greatly from Dale's experience.

At Sandfest Dale's motorhome and home-made stacker trailer were out in the dunes, dragged and parked within the fenced area. The stacker is another fabrication example members would drool over.

Dale and his wife spend two months at Glamis each year and he has the trailer fully equipped as a welding shop that includes TIG.

Glad you are here Dale. Next time I'm down to Florence I'll send a PM. Looking forward to seeing you in the dirt!
