I cut off the bell housing top and left the bottom with the threaded bosses to mount that side cleaned up the rest and welded a block on the right side to mount to other rail.
Cut the Honda cv's so I had the spline and a flange to weld the 630 flanges to.
Cut the hub out of a clutch disc and welded this to a 1.25 keyed shaft to mount my driven sprocket on.

Honda makes a great trans and no matter where I run I have the perfect gearset and reverse

1300s on 8 inch rims with tubes. This combo saves the added weight of beadlocks and slides well without hooking the sand

I really like the tranny setup. Couple questions. How does the keyed shaft and the part of the clutch hub stay fixed to the input shaft on the transmission? How did you setup the shifter linkage for the honda tranny? Pics of the current chain driven setup would be awesome. This would be pretty sweet to have this on a CVT setup as well. 5 speeds with reverse. Do you know how much radial clearance you have from the input shafts centerline? Just wondering if a CVT clutch would fit in there.

While I don't claim to be a CVT expert, I seem to remember different gear ratios requiring different clutching set-ups.

Yes more pics would be nice. What gear do you usually leave the Honda tranny in when at the dunes. What a pain trying to figure out the total gear reduction when you factor in everything.

You sure that's an 88 tranny, what car is it out of. Those 3 piece cases came in the 84-87 cars, the 88+ have 2 piece cases. I've had tons of 88-91 Civic, one of my favorite cars. I have a 90 Si that i autocross and a 91 that's got a fully built turbo engine and yes the trannies are well made. They can take quite a beating and there so cheap to replace.

You can use any Honda but the 83+ have a bigger input shaft. I run in 3rd normally and 4th if the boys are turning up the wick
