I used an old shifter off the shelf from my old mid engine VW and that made it very simple and it shifts great although I rarely shift it on the fly
Here's some pictures

Take a look at the pic in my last post again Jay. The one arrow is pointing at the shaft Arrowhead made but the other is pointing to the splined part that fits the Honda tranny splines. Thats the center parts of a Honda Stock clutch disc. So it fits the splines perfectly. Go to your garage and pick up a Honda clutch disc. The center part with splines gets removed then you make a shaft to weld to it that will also accept your driven sprocket. Support it on bearings and send in the powur. Bill

The more I see of this little car, the more I like it! I am in the process of trying to pick up a trans like this now so I will be back when I get to that stage! Good job Arrow!

If you bump into a couple Honda trannys for good deals let me know. Don't forget they gotta have the drive cups coming out of the T-ranny too. If you bump into any newer VW's I may be interested as well. I guess some of the VW use a tranny like the Honda still. But the Passat tranny is like an Audi and is similair to a old skool VW Beetle but a lil bigger and heavier. I still think these with a driveshaft adaptor and the bike motor turned sideways would be nice without any chain. But the ratios would have to be on. I think they would be scince Arrowhead runs 3rd and 4th. He is not gearing it down to much (I do not think any at all with the sprockets?) So coupled directly at worse you would run the lower gears yet.

The VW trannys that are like the Honda's front drive trannys (all gears parellel) face the other direction as the motr is built on the other side of the car but would be PERFECT for a sled motor as the driven has a long jackshaft to carry the power to the other side already. Then connect with a chain to the VW's input. Werkz fer me! Thanx Bill

Well i can almost guarantee none of the tranny's will have the axle ends in them, you'd have to get a hold of some junk axles and take them apart. Luckily for me i have a few junk ones a can donate to my project. If you end up using a Honda trans i'm sure i could get you a set from a friend. I know a guy with about 20 axles in his garage.

What type of vw tranny would be needed, that is which car is it out of. Year and model. I guess using a sled motor and a cvt would take up more space or would you be able to mount the driven clutch and the jackshaft above the tranny and have the sprockets from the jackshaft and the tranny input directly above each other. Or would this put the wrong load direction on the primary clutch shaft from the sled motor (or does load direction on the sled motor matter).
Verry interesting topic. Keep it coming
