Default new guy with a 07 R1 motor

Hi guys, A friend of mine told me about this site and said I could learn a few new thingss over here. So here I am.
I don't have a rail but I have a rhino and I'm in the middle of installing a 2007 R1 motor in it. I just purchased a Jeffco reverse box for it.

Howdy Stetler.

Welcome to the madness.

So, you're going to put an R1 in a Rhino. Cool!

First thing you need to do with your engine setup is locate a manual for the bike. Get the Yamaha manual. There's a lot of great info and you'll probably need the wire diagram, the coolant system layout info and probably more.

Find out what size a stock radiator is for the bike - just get general dimensions. Once you figure that out, up the size by at minimum 50%. From there, you'll be able to figure out who to get it from. You may even be able to do something on the order of a Civic or Rabbit radiator.

Give Jay Largo at [http://www.desertdogoffroad.com]Desert Dog Off Road[/url] a call and ask him what he uses in his rails. He's running RX1, Apex and Busa engines in his stuff, so he'll have or be able to get the rad you need.

Make sure you wire in and use a fan. The engine will manage it's running. (just one reason to have the wire diagram).

As far as having to add another bung to the radiator - follow what Yamaha did for plumbing. They got it right, so why change what they did? Makes it a lot easier that way too. I don't think you'll need a second bung, but I may be wrong.

Make sure you rubber mount the ECU (black box, brain box - the electrical box). They are not real fond of vibration.

Hope that helps some.

Pictures, more info and such would be cool to see and will let us help you more.

Once again, welcome to the site.

Ok, I'll post up some pics in another thread later tonight.
The rubber around the ECU .......THANKS! I didn't know about that.
Yes, I already went to r1forums.net and downloaded the 07 user manual, So I have the wiring and cooling info.
I am searching for a radiato. I was leaning towards the Summit aluminum one and running some dual fans or a real good single.

Thanks guys for the info. I wasn't sure if I should post a thread build because it's a rhino but if you guys think so. maybe I will.
