I redesigned the suspension a bit right from the start. I made it a little wider, added some travel and added Fox dual rate coil over shocks. Once it was finished I had to reinforce the steering arms, they bent right away. I started out with a 500 cc snowmobile engine and the center drive shaft design in the ST2 plans couldn't hold up to it. It twisted and bent the very first ride. I redesigned that with a much stronger design made from splined shaft and went with type 4 Cv's and bug axles in place of the u-joints and mild steel keyed shafts called for in the plans. That has held up for years, even after I swapped in a 600 cc GSXR engine. Finally I replaced the front lower heims because it was clear that the ones i started out with (the ones shown in the plans) weren't going to hold up more than a few hours of desert riding. I used upsized good quality chrome moly ones with high misalignment spacers... Since these mods the buggy has been completely reliable. That is a pic of it jumping at Beverly Dunes in my avitar ... I have beat on it pretty hard and it has been fine.
