Hey everyone, Josh here. I am from Orange Texas.

I recently wrecked my 2012 GSX-R 1000 after having it 5 years and it's a total loss. Luckily the engine still runs like a champ after a few bandaids. I am here for some advice. I don't have a crazy amount of money to invest but I was wondering what everyone though of transplanting that powerhouse into a Tao Tao Arrow 150. I love the body style (ariel atom) but this would be my first attempt at a buggy. Any thoughts?

I have a background in pipe fabrication and welding. It also has to be 2 seats.

It's basically a complete adult go kart that I could build on to in order to beef it up where needed. Just don't have the experience to know if that's insane or not.

Here is a picture of one. May need to be caged in and modified slightly but I like the look.

    Welcome to MBN.

That's a Tao Tao? Interesting. I'd be adding a cage.

My first thought was that it would be "killer" in more ways than one.

    I agree. It's a nice looking buggy.

In a buggy build, you need all of the elements working together. The engine, suspension, brakes, etc. If you already have a Tao Tao, then maybe that would be a good starting point, but you'll have some work ahead of you to beef up the brakes and suspension. If you don't have one, then maybe design a build that resembles the Tao Tao, but pick up the right parts to make it a complete build.

The jump from a 150cc engine to a 1000cc engine is where my concern would be. I would be less concerned with an upgrade from a 150cc to maybe a 400cc engine with maybe some minor modifications. Nothing says it can't be done, however.

Yes sir K-Fab that is a Tao Tao that can be delivered to my door step for $2K. I don't really have $5K to spend on a buggy at the moment. Also with that being said if I cant figure out a good budget build I am just going to sell the engine.

Darwin, That is exactly why I am here. Maybe help with some guidance finding a good rolling chassis or someone to tell me that what i want to do will never work. I do have the Brembo brakes and rotors off of the Gixxer and I imagine the tubing is standard for any buggy on the Tao Tao. Thanks for all of the info!

Do I need to make an official thread somewhere for this? Going off topic for the welcome mat?

Cool. Never seen an Ariel copy before. Good ol' Chinese.

May as well start up a build thread in the Projects in Progress section.

btw - as a fellow Texan, I fully expect a plate full of Carne Guisada and hand made/home made tortillas sent to my house from you. Cannot find it outside of the Lone Star State, dammit. I'll even accept a Taco Cabana plate of the stuff. (:

If the tao tao has a FNR box, it's not going to hold up to the gixxer power, a reverse is always good to have but as long as you know you don't have one you can get by without.
The frame looks sturdy, agree with all, needs a full cage, but it is probable made from light weight tubing that would crumple if it ever tangled with anything other than a smart car.
    just my opinion.
