I grew up in the very southern tip of Texas (McAllen and South Padre Island) where if it got to freezing for 8 hours it was a 'hard freeze' and the palm and citrus trees would curl up an die. I feel the same way... Temps in the high 90's/low 100's weren't uncommon and the humidity was usually off the charts compared to the desert. Try living on a beach with no A/C and the humidity and temp is the same - 90 & 90. Move and you sweat.
I've been stuck in Southwestern Ohio for 23.5 years now and I WANT OUT! - waiting on my daughter to graduate. 1.5 more years, two more winters. I can make it I can make it I can make it Back in the winter of 1999 I discovered this place called Phoenix and knew immediately where I was supposed to be. Shorts and a sweatshirt in February? YEA, I'M IN! 110 in the shade in September? Sure, I can deal with that - it's less than 30% humidity (okay, Monsoon season is 35%). I got out of a swimming pool one time, it was about 97-99 degrees, and actually got chilled as the water evaporated. WTF? Oh, I like this! Ohio - Five months of gray, wet, cold, icky where the ground is soaked, everything is muddy and there's no ability to be outside and enjoy it unless you like mud. I don't care for mud that much anymore. Phoenix - 10 months of outdoor play time and even during August/September you can go out and enjoy the world after dark. 110+ in the summer - no question about it, it's HOT, but I can handle hot. Drink lots of fluids, stay out of the direct sun and make August/September shop time months so everything's up and running for the next 10 months. Can't stand the weather during those two months? Head to San Diego - it's only 4-5 hrs away and a great place to go vacation for a couple of days. I've been traveling to the Great South West for the past 13 years now as often as possible, usually spending most of February in the Phoenix area with a dedicated week of dune play. It's perfect for me. I plan on breaking ground in the next six months - have a lot about 7 miles north of the 101 off of Scottsdale road. I'll be able to get up, drink a cup 'o Joe, hop in my RZR or the Dez and disappear into the desert. It's where I'm supposed to be. Six hours gets me just about anyplace I'd want to be. Dunes, Ocean, Mexico, Vegas, Havasu, San Diego, Mountains, Albuquerque (which I can spell!) all sorts of tracks - both asphalt (been tracking my street car a lot) and dirt. The variety of terrain, locations and ability to be outside and enjoy it is damn near endless. I can't complain too much about Ohio - been a great place to raise my kids, is the hub of an amazing variety of cultures, people, things. It's just time to get out and get away from this shit known as winter. - Hell, if we had enough snow that I could play in it I'd be a bit happier about it, but alas, that doesn't happen here. It's just enough to be a pain in the ass... Six hours of driving just gets you to more of the same - trees everywhere, not much scenery change. I'm burnt out. I'll take you up on that In-n-Out Burger. I like that place! |

Let me know if you need a hand in breaking ground. Shovel wise that is.
And I live at 35th and union hills. (2.5 miles away from Sierra title) Oh and the monsoon now is labeled as follows. June 15 to oct 1. And the start is either 3 days above 55 humidity it the start date. This was the weather guys can shut the heck up and get to it. And we'll the news (12 news) does the monsoon meter of the day. 20%chance of rain ----- it's a 2. (Lame!) I drove through Illinois And stayed like 3 weeks. Now I'm from Phoenix and I know the grey you mean. It looks like the old black and white "wizard of oz" movie. Yuck! Guess you need to be born in it to like it. Yeah Phoenix is hot. But the heat shoves the old snow birds out in the summer. Great! But it also blows people away when they hear the numbers. Now the numbers are just that. High ones but just numbers. So it's hot in the summer. Think of this. You can always cool down. But can't hardly heat up!! Right?! Kfab you need some one to help on road trips here. I'm in! You need some one to tend the fire. I'm in. You need some one to shovel snow. I'm out! (Yeah sounds nice) Dwarf car should be done and well testing begins just over a month away. (If I'm all street legal (soon)then I'll just drive over to your house) Hey Foddrill motor sports just had a show yesterday and well I'll post a new thread later today. Lots of cool buggies. |

For the record, I was NOT the one that put the RZR on it's side. One of my buddies did, following me (or should I say trying to follow after I put the high speed sliding pass on him?). He just fell over and didn't hurt a thing
The difference between the two (stocker and Exit Stage III kit) is amazing. bdk mumbled the rest of the evening about how he want one after his little jaunt... |

Hell, you don't even have to go as far as Flagstaff. Sedona has some really nice trails and is usually 20* cooler than Phoenix. Have also done some good trails around Prescott and Jerome.
But if you are in Flagstaff, the cinders is good fun. Just hard on tires.......... |

Sedona is awesome. So is Flag and Prescott. Buy a boat. There are some seriously kickass lakes within 40 minutes of Scottsdale (where I assume you would be buying). Lake Pleasant is pretty nice but Bartlet is a super cool place to camp and spend the weekend with the buggies and boats. Being a moto guy, I couldn't suggest a standup jetski more. Also tubing the Salt River is a great place to see ASU tits. Seriously, if it wasn't for work and family, I'd move back tomorrow. I miss PHX soooo much....

Flyerider. You mention asu tits. Don't forget the axis/radious down town Scottsdale bar scene and all of the tits and arse walking around. I'm no collage guy and married but they cobble stone streets and the hoochies walking in high heals is awesome to watch them attempt to walk.
