Default Trailing arm question

Hello everyone!

I'm in the process of designing my first buggy and I have a quick question. I know the stock length of a trailing arm is 16.25 in. centerline of pivot to centerline of hub. What I can't find however is the stock width. I've seen several ready made DOM trailing arms, 3x3, 3x5 ect., but I can't start laying out my frame in solidworks until I have the stock trailing arm width to work from. I've talked to peeps at Appletree, Dan's and others, but no one could answer my question or give me the dimensions of the ones they're selling??

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
WT

Hey yoshi,

No, actually the overall width. For example, from inboard face (ie. closest to the center of the chassis) of the pivot point to the outboard face of the bearing cup. I'm going to assume thats how the after market Manufacter's come up with the 3x3 over, 5x5 over ect. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

At this point I'd be happy with any measurment as long as I know how much over stock it is. I can just design my own arms and solve the problem, but kinda wanted to just order some prebuilt ones.

Thanks,
WT

I may be wrong, but I always assumed 3x3 over meant 3" wider, 3" longer than stock....

It does, but until I know the stock width the 3" over does me no good. For example, I know stock length centerline of pivot to centerline of bearing carrier is 16.25. Therefore a 3x3 is 19.25 long center to center but what is the width?

Thanks

Maybe this will help. This is the measurement I need. If someone has a 3x3, a 5x5 or whatever and has this measurment from their arm, I can figure stock width from there as long as I know how much over it is. Or just knowing the stock width will tell me how wide a 3x3, 5x5 ect. is.

I measured from the center of the inner pivot to the bearing cap and got about 23". Did you want to wheel mounting surface? I can pit a hub on tomorow and get you that if you want.
