Some cars apparently have a longer axle on one side that is hollow, and a shorter axle on the other that is solid. I understand it's to balance weight...and obviously I wouldn't want this in my sand rail, so what cars should I be avoiding? I'm going to go prowl the junkyard this weekend and I'd like to know what vehicles/makes to skip because of the shorter/longer axles. I'll need to find a car or make of cars that doesn't use axles of different lengths.

Yes, most fwds have one axle longer. If you use 2 from one side you will get equal length, just pick the side that meets your overall width. If you are going to use high horsepower, you need to worry about original rotation. In that case, buy new axles. Tim

Same length for sure. I do agree with tooltime about the rotation though...whatever axles I find will have to be marked for left/right and inner/outer. That's if I find them on ebay or some other used place...off the car, I'll mark them myself.
