Default DOT Tires?

I am looking into a motorcycle engine car, and from time to time would like some DOT tires to throw on it. Being down on torque, heavy wheels and tires will be aweful...

Are there any sure fire tires for a light weight sand car? I was thinking the 4.5" drag tires for the front, but am coming up blank for something for the rear (that isn't a round black brick, ie any AT light truck tire). How heavy are circle track tires? I suppose that they arn't DOT approved though either.

In the stupid idea catogory.... grooved Auto-x slicks, or wide motorcycle tires (for the front too)

Thanks.

You are probably gonna end up with some old school VW beetle tires on the front like 165x15 I remember old Citrons used some used some michelin 145 x15 but may be impossible to find now days
For the rear you could use some 275 60r 15 they are about 27" tall and 8.5" wide. plus being Load range B (4PR) and Radial they would be pretty flexible casings and air down pretty good

BF Goodrich Radial GTs are available in short heights with wider widths than most. You could groove those. I think the new snow and ice tires like Blizzaks would work well for dirt if you want something with better bite to start with. The shortest AT Truck tire is going to be for a 14" rim. I think 27" for BF Goodrich and 26" for Cooper or some other off brand that I looked up once.

For a truely weird size in tire I found a 155/80-15 on tire rack last night. Otherwise, you can get front drag tires in 7.5-8.5 widths as well, but these can get pretty tall. I can't remember if they had shorter than ~27 inches in those widths.

Should I be very concerned with outside diameter? It would be like changing gears when changing tires, but the taller tires have more inertia than a shorter wider tire...

Incedentially, these aren't going to be an offroad tire, this is strictly for runs to Dairy Queen and the beach.

(My wife and I both drive Jeep wranglers, after taking the windshield down and doors off, we still want "less" enter a buggy, incedentally the low weight is easily towed for Silver Lake trips to the sand with the Jeep )
