I was wondering what the possibility of using front forks (shocks) off an MX style motorcycle would be for the rear of a mini buggy designed for trails?
In theory, if you could find the right spring rate, it could be done. Plus M/C front forks/shocks are tunable as well. You can purchase kits to modify the valving in them directly off the internet. It occurs to me that depending on the donor bike, most have at least 12" and sometimes up to 18" of travel and this would be ideal. I ask this because I can get MX style complete forks from a KX500 for $125 locally on Craigslist. *Plus, I have been eye-balling the front forks on my XR600R and it seems that they could be made to work pretty easily. The ONLY thing I would have to do to make my XR600R forks work would be to design a top mount to hold them. The existing axle hole would work as is with attachment points on lower control arms. Has anyone else ever done anything like this before? If this will work, it could open a lot of doors for people on a budget trying to find a decent spring/shock set up. |

Yes fork tubes work great . mounting can be difficult but I used them for a while on the league machines... you either need to get a longer air transfer tube ...but for the left handers I used seperate air pressures to compensate for left handers and track tuning...If you do some research there is a thread about this... but the guy was going to use them in the front
