Default ST2 NG Plans / Construction

Hi MBN Members,

I have just purchaced the ST2 NG plans from their website. As they suggest, Iam reading through them before I attempt any construction.

On drawings A16 and A18 there are four 5/8" diameter holes in frame parts TP and SB, close to TQ and TE.
I dont know why they are there, what are they for? are they drilled all the way through the frame or just one wall of the pipe?.

Any explanation appreciated.

Bn M.

the holes are for the 1/2 inch rod in your a arm pivots to pass thru when removing rod to replace bushing. I used bolts in place of rods so the holes wernt needed.

The ST2 Long Travel has the same holes, I made them as the plans describe. I use them to tap the 1/2" rods out of the bushings with another rod.

I could go take picks of the bolts, but they are just a long 1/2 inch bolt and i had to cut more threads on them cuz the shank was to long then I trimed them to the proper length. You can use the 1/2 inch rod and NOT drill the holes, you would need to grab the end of the rod with vice grips and pull the rods out with a little twisting motion as you pull them. Thats how I get my bolts out, but how often will we be changing bushings. IMHO the holes are optional.

Thankyou both for your information, it has given me options to consider.
I would prefer to think about other options now, at the planning stage, rather than later on while holding a grinder and welder...

Would you mind sharing any other information about building the ST2, that might make my buggy build easier? Im still reading alot of information from this website....

Hey BnM long time no post. Have you started your build yet? The chasis is pretty straight forward to build.you need to decide what motor and drive train you will be using, and what rear carrier you want. Will you use a mini diff out of a tranny or a car irs diff or "live" axle spool.Once you know that you can see how wide it is and then build the rear a arm inner pivot points in the right place . will you stick to the plans or modify. Lots of stuff to consider. Good luck and post pics. Many people will offer help and advise, all you have to do is ask. Don

Hi guys, I'm 35 and I'm an auto mechanic from Germany. Building a ST2 NG ... Also had the problem with the holes?

You could also ne with a threaded hole in the bars and go with a homemade slide hammer, and drive ever forward. So you do not make the holes in the frame and if you disturb the holes in the bars ... They finished on end caps for bars
